Pre Season Mid Point

Titans: Let me get this out of the way, I dont place that much value on the pre season other than to assess the capabability of team depth, and the occassional position battle.

That being said, looking to our most recent game against the Broncos, I am very disappointed with the teams apparent inability to make a tackle. We traded away our best tackler in the belief we had guys capable of stepping up, now Im not saying we dont, but I am VERY disappointed with the showing of the LB corps and defense in general.

My other area of concern really comes from the OL. We know they are young and gelling, so are prepared for some growing pains, but 7 sacks simply isnt good enough. Some of that was Matt Mauck not getting rid of the ball, but even so, I hope the guys can get on the same page.

Now everything in the Pre has to be taken with a pinch of salt, because at the end of the day, we are fielding non starters for the most part. The entire secondary for example are guys vying for roster spots and depth positions. We came up against a team that had the same attitude as us in Game 1, and won, and then a team that feels the need to start all their starters Game 2 and lost. I am not surprised by that.

Positives I am taking from the pre season so far is the play of Jerious Norwood, we are really glad we picked him up, and he could be a big part of our gameplan on offense.

At this point, we are weighing up the possibility of Vince coming in for the final two games, but are hesitant with the slew of injuries around the league, my personal views on the preseason, and the play of our offensive line thus far. We have every confidence he is our guy for the season, and as such do not necessarily feel the need to see him get in there, rookie or no rookie.

To sum up my feelings on the preseason:
a) We need to tackle a lot better
b) We need better play from both lines, particularly O as the DL does not have full starters
c) We like what we have seen from guys like Norwood, and Bo Scaife who are stepping up and showing us they can be a big part of our plans come the regular season.

Well as I briefly mentioned, we are discussing the possibility, it hinges a lot on how beneficial we really see it being, if it is worth it, then we will put him in, but right now, we are not quite sure what there is to be gained, worthy of risking his health - Which behind the OL as it is currently playing, is particularly pressing as an issue.

I wont rule it out, but if he does come in, it will purely be to get a feel for the NFL speed, and put into practice things from camp. We have every confidence in him, and know he has it within himself too, so confidence or even position battles are not on the radar for him, meaning putting him in is not altogether necessary.

We shall see how it goes.

How do you feel about your schedule this year? Looking it over on paper it seems like you might have a tall order this year.

Its tough, very tough. I think its one of the tougher ones in the league. We are in a tricky division, and play some very good teams on top of that. I think we are a good team, and the games will show what we are made of.

That being said, I wouldnt be complaining if they scheduling Gods decided they wanted to give us an easier one next year

Your OL seemed to play poorly this game. Are they going to be your starters coming into the regular season?

The sheer fact they are out there shows their positions are not necessarily set in stone. They havent been playing well, so there is a chance one or two get dropped, or perhaps we even bring someone in. They have two games effectively to prove their worth.

2)

I wont rule out a move for anyone, there is the possibility. If I was to say a position, anywhere on the OL or LB corps could potentially see someone come in. We are not happy with the play from either group.

How do you see yourself and your team stacking up against the rest of your division ...

Very well. I think we have had historically close games with the Colts, and relished that under the last regime.

Games with Jacksonville are generally brutal games, tough faught D, big hits flying around, and smashmouth football.

Houston have historically been weaker in the division, but are a good team nonetheless, I know Vince will be excited to beat the team that passed on him (which we are very grateful for

) and to be victorious in his return home.

I think we have as good a chance as any to take the division, the Colts are obviously the favourites, but we dont mind being overlooked.
