Swoosh, distance has a lot to do with it. Being in Germany, you would want to find a server closer to you to test. Then again, it will be just as far getting it from Cash's server.
I get variations on the different test from 1.9mbps to 3.1mbps, which is normal.
You can send 4 packets of information to a system using UDP and packet 4 will get there before packet 1, due to variations in routing.
(UDP is a protocal similar to TCI/IP except that it doesn't verify the receipt of packets after the first couple. This is mainly used in streaming video, radio broadcast and some FTP).

As long as your speed is over 256k thats all that matters, because I wont be uploading any faster than that... last night I did a test steam at 100kbs that looked decent.. but I am considering raising it a bit so it looks even better...

ok, well...ripperjd..if Cash's site looks like it's trying to sell something then the site you gave was Cash's sites host! Looked like an internet flea market! Plus you have to register to test.
That's true Yoda. I didn't think of that. I use DSL here over a phone line. Even though I think I have fast internet connectivity, things due seem slow at times. All I know is, it's a helleva lot faster than my dial up AOL I had in the Colorado Springs!

MY SITE.. is dslreports... its what I always use.. never seen that other site before today.. A speed test is a speed test they are all rough estimates and they all take different routes to different servers... this isn't a contest its just to let me know what everyone is running at..
Yoda posted the other site that I linked to it just looked easier to use for those that might get lost at dslreports..
