beginning of preseason PC
GM Tim Repine (yes, using my real name) is sitting behind a table. The team is out in practice still as they prepare for the Tennessee Titans. After a few seconds the conference begins...
GM Tim Repine: This will be the format this season on how we handle our press conferences. Our coaches and players will be available for comments in the locker room after games but all press conferences will be handled by me. The new owner and GM of the New Orleans Saints, Tim Repine.
Let me start off by saying this off season saw many changes come to the Saints. We were absolutely horrible last season and felt many changes needed to be made.
The offensive changes are the ones that seem to be grabbing the most headlines. Wide Receivers Chad Johnson and Randy Moss will combine to give us possibly the best duo in the league.
Quarterback Drew Brees was signed away from the San Diego Chargers as they made the decision to go in a different direction. We feel Brees has recovered just fine from his season ending shoulder injury and will be good to go come week one of the regular season.
We brought in Tiki Barber at running back to help with the development of young Reggie Bush. We were as shocked as anyone when Mr. Bush fell to us at #2 and we couldn't pass up the chance to get him. Bush will be used mainly at WR but will also spend time backing up Barber at RB.
We have a offensive line that has some holes in it and we are attempting to address them, but if we can't we will find a way to make it work with the current unit we have.
On defense we retooled it almost completely. DE Greg Ellis will be counted on to give a steady pass rush. He was brought over from the Dallas Cowboys in hopes that he could provide great leadership for our team.
Boss Bailey and Tedy Lehman were brought in from Detroit to man the outside linebacker spots. We haven't yet determined if we will run a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense as coaches haven't seen enough in practice. We will use preseason to determine this.
Sam Madison was brought in from the Giants to line up opposite of Mike McKenzie at CB. With Troy Vincent at FS we have a aging but what we feel will be a strong set of defensive backs. SS Kennedy will be relied upon to be our defensive inforcer.
Now onto the preseason. I would like to announce that QB Drew Brees, RB Tiki Barber, Reggie Bush, WR Chad Johnson, and Randy Moss will more than likely see little to no time during the preseason. Coaches feel they have shown enough in practice that they feel comfortable not having them play much in the preseason.
Our starting defense will play however as we still have a lot to evaluate.
In closing I would like to request that you not ask us about any players who have departed from the Saints this offseason, only the players that we currently have on our roster.
