Ravens Preseason Press Conference

A big, tall young man, who was sitting next to Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, stands up and walks over to the podium. Some of the people in the crowd first think he is an undrafted free agent just signed by the Ravens but by his professionalism they soon realize it is new GM Kevin C. making his first real appearance to the public.

Hello, I am Kevin C., the new general manager of the Baltimore Ravens. I want to discuss some of our offseason moves with you all today. I know we made a lot of big moves for a team that no one considered to have many problems in the first place but we feel we only improved this team.

First with the offense, obviously the biggest addition was HB Willis McGahee who is a minor step up over Jamal Lewis but provides us a cheaper contract and although we respect Mr. Lewis and wanted to keep him here we just felt we couldn't afford him for much longer and got a very good player in return. The 2 overlooked additions to this offense were Larry Allen and Ryan Tucker. I am a firm believer that offensive lines win game so these are two key additions that should not be overlooked and should be seen as a great improvement. One of the last things I want to discuss about our improved offense was the addition of Trent Dilfer, he is a great teacher for Kyle Boller and provides us a solid back-up right now to keep stress off of the young Boller for the time being.

Next I will discuss our defense. The addition of Bryant Young was great for this team, sure it hurt a lot to lose Haloti Ngata then watch him go to one of our division rivals, but we feel Young is more than capable of replacing Ngata on this defense. Other than that we really didn't do anything to this defense because, well, why try and fix perfection?

I will now open the field to any questions.

Given that you have two very solid backups to McGahee in Musa Smith and Mike Anderson, how much do you plan to implement one or both of them in your offensive strategy?

Is there any concern about McGahee's health? He has been labeled injury prone during his short time in the league.

Do you feel your depth at DT is sufficient for a 4-3 or MLB if running a 3-4?

As of right now we plan and watching them both play in the preseason and decide which HB should get the second string carrys. We know and they know they are both capable but we want the best we can get.

We feel that McGahee's health is okay and him being labeled injury prone this early is really a wrong accusation. Even if the unfortunate happens we do have the depth behind Willis to still compete with a strong offense.

Although on paper our depth at DT looks weak we really feel that if one of these two players, who are both pretty good at avoiding injurys, our backups will provide a good replacement and with the players Bannan would be playing next to he would get single teamed a lot which plays into our advantage.

Upon taking over the role of GM, what are your aims for your first year?

We in the Ravens organization consider anything less than making the playoffs a failure. We feel this team has the skill to make the playoffs and make a deep run in the playoffs that could rival our 2000 season.

Hello Mr. Kevin C. you mentioned that you think that some of your new additions are overlooked like your OLs Ryan Tucker and Larry Allen... my question is, is it possible that you overlooked or underestimated the gone up change of possible injuries as you traded for some players with a higher risk of getting hurt?
And do you think that you have adequate depth in all areas to compensate injuries? Some areas like for example the WR corps, OL, DL, LB and the entire Secondary seem not to have much depth. How do you feel about this situation?

With such a talented roster, what are your expectations for this season? Super Bowl or Bust?

We didn't overlook injurys, we have a very capable back-up guard in Vincent and tackle in Pashos. I feel our depth at o-line is good, as far as WR, we are aware that this position has been a problem for us and we will address it soon. At D-Line and LB we feel we have very capable back-ups but none of our starters have a high injury risk.

Our expectations are a playoff appearance but I see no reason why this squad can't win the Super Bowl.

Do you feel that McNair can still play at a level that will help lead you to the SB or are you relying on your defense to carry you the entire way with a more conservative approach on offense?

Mr. Kevin C, a few weeks ago you were telling the media that your looking for another WR to make the depth situation look better, what happened to these trade talks?

We are relying on solid play by McNair but our defense should be able to carry us to the Super Bowl. They were able to carry Trent Dilfer a few years back and we feel they can still play at that level and with a better QB we see no reason why the same outcome can't be achieved.

These trade talks have
