Ravens week 3 PC

Disturbed : I don't really know where to begin with this game. By far I felt like it was our worst played game of the season. Nothing went right other than running the ball and keeping the other team out of the end zone.

On offense we just threw the ball too many times in situations that we should have been running the ball or we ran the ball in situations we should have been passing.

Leinart wasn't bad today but he wasn't great. He made several mistakes that you expect from a young quarterback. He will only get better with more playing time but with Drew back either this week or next, he probably won't see much more playing time unless Bledsoe gets another injury. I thought he showed good command of the pocket and made several good throws. The two interceptions turned out not hurt us, but we still would like to see him avoid making those throws.

Fred Taylor once again was great for us. I can't say it enough that we really love what he is doing for us. I talked about how he needed to pick up his yards per carry average in the past week. Tonight he went out and averaged almost 5 yards per carry against a very good Tampa Bay front seven.

We once again used a variety of receivers in this game, just as we have all year with 4 different guys catching at least 4 passes each. Expect this trend to continue as we love to rotate our guys in and out to give each some playing time.

The offensive line did a pretty good job in protecting Matt, even though they did allow 3 sacks. They did a great job as usual in the running game.

The defensive side of the ball wasn't very good. I blame this one 100% on our coaching staff and they have agreed with me that it was on them.

We went into this game thinking that Tampa Bay would try to run Chris Brown a lot to take pressure off of young Aaron Rodgers. So we decided to stick a extra man in the box in an attempt to contain him. We did a very good job of that. Even though he got 117 yards we did force him to do it on 34 carries. No run was longer than 8 yards. If we could do that every week I believe we would take it.

We made a few slight adjustments with our secondary that really seemed to backfire. Rookies Adam Jones and Fabian Washington were given a lot more playing time. Again, this was a result of going into the game with the mentality that the Bucs would be running a lot. They played ok for making their first starts of the season but they were left out there in man to man and the young man Rodgers was able to pick on them all day. When we finally did adjust to it we went to a soft zone and he still picked that apart. The coaching staff failed here to make the proper adjustment and it cost us.

The one bright spot I can take from this is that while we allowed way too many yards we did only allow them into the end zone 1 time.

I want to send a special thanks to Martin Gramatica. Kicker for Tampa Bay. He did something that I have been trying to do all offseason, preseason, and the first few weeks of this year. He , with actions and not words, gave everyone the true reason of why we paid a record contract to a kicker like Adam Vinatieri. Make sure you send him a case of whatever it is he likes to drink.

Note: Not part of my PC but I figured I would explain to those that didn't get to see it why I was thanking Gramatica.

For those that missed it. Gramatica missed 2 field goals during the game. The 2nd one was on OverTime and obviously would have allowed Tampa Bay to win. After his miss, the Ravens drove down the field and Adam Vinatieri kicked a game winner.

Coach will Jones and Washington be put back into the nickel and dime packages instead of starting roles for now?

How do you explain the effectiveness of Rodgers? Seemed like he was connecting on every pass. Yes he threw a couple of pics, and one of them was huge because it was returned for a td. Overall though Is rodgers getting lucky the last couple of weeks cause his receivers are catching everyhting thrown within 5 yards of them, or is he just that good?

They will both return to being nickel and dime corners for now and probably the rest of the season. They didn't play bad but they just were not effective enough.

I think it was a bad coaching decision to approach the game the way we did. You don't put two rookie corners out there and then bring your safeties down to the line. Also, playing a soft zone is not what we are known for. Im not sure what the reasoning behind that was but Im sure it will be corrected.

I will say this though. I do believe Aaron Rodgers will be a very good starting quarterback in this league. No one should take him lightly like we did.

What was the main result of the bad gameplanning? Do you feel your staff say something different on the tapes to make them believe Rodgers wouldn't be an issue in this game?

Basics of what happened is that our two rookie corners got left out in man to man coverage and really were not able to get the job done. Nothing we saw really made us feel we would be successful, we just wanted to put them in and see what they could do.

(Ok. this is how I would answer this really... i was a over confindent SOB and thought I could just run my guys out there and roll over the Bucs. It almost cost me dearly)
