Texans HC Jim Johnson enters the room and takes a seat. He signals for one of his assistants to get him a glass of water, and then begins the conference.
This team has played some great games in my time here, little over a year I think its been now. You know, the games where everything seems to go right. You're in the zone; time slows down for you. Everything just...clicks. Games like David Carr's "perfect game" against the Niners in Week 1 last year...our 33-0 shutout of the Browns in Week 8 of that year...2 TD win over the eventual Super Bowl champion Titans in Week 13...3 TD win over the West's #1 seed last year, St. Louis, in Week 14.
And now we can add this past game against Dallas to that list.
45 points put on the board, so naturally I have nothing but good things to say about the offense. Carr really got into a groove today, completing 66% of his passes for 278 yards and 3 TDs, along with 1 INT late in the game when he shouldn't have even been throwing the ball. Getting out to an early lead allowed us to get Michael Bennett his fair share of carries, 29 of them, with which he picked up 109 yards and 2 TDs. And this was the first week this season that he truly displayed his "dual threat" capabilities: 91 yards and a TD through the air, as well. That's a 200 total yard total for him, folks, just a great performance today. Andre Johnson and Robert Ferguson had pretty good games, Johnson with 63 yards and a TD, Ferguson with 67 yards. Rookie WR Chris Henry caught his first TD of the season, and continued to impress us with his kick returns.
Joey Porter led us on the defense today, just a beastly game for him. Led the team with 11 tackles, and also added a sack, and INT, and picked up a fumble that was knocked loose by the surprisingly hard-hitting Joey Galloway. Dunta Robinson picked off his first pass today, and 2nd year nickelback Derrick Johnson had his second "pick six" of the season. Robaire Smith got the QB twice, and James Butler got him once on a safety blitz. Which brings me to another point...our guys got GREAT pressure on the QB today. Delhomme had very little time to make decisions, which resulted in our 4 sacks and 3 INTs. That defensive pressure also caused problems for Cedric Benson, who was unable to get to 50 yards on the ground for the day. Only 16 points given up by this unit, and an extremely solid performance all around.
I don't like to go without at least a little bit of constructive criticism, so if I had to say something negative, I would point out that John Kasay has now missed both his attempts from beyond 50 yards. Not a big deal just yet, but if his leg doesn't start to show some power, we may have to pass on potential field goal opportunities if we can't get it inside the 50-yard range.
Just like last week, I feel like we made another "statement" this week. Last week we knocked off one of the top teams in the league with a late rally. This week, we beat another team by nearly 30 points. Mark my words, the Texans will be competitive this season. I'm not gonna go out and do anything flashy like guarantee the playoffs or even a winning record, and none of my players will either. Just not our style. Just know that we have a bunch of young, playoff-hungry players that will stop at nothing to help this team reach the postseason for the first time in our short history.
3-0 Is pretty Nice Coach Congrats. But you are still in a very Competitive division no one really suspects the Colts to Continue to struggle like this what do you feel your team will have to work on the most before yall play the Colts for the second time this season.

No doubt about it, the AFC South is one of the most, if not the most competitive division in the entire league. Its pretty much a given that the Colts will rebound from their rocky 1-2 start to be a playoff and even Super Bowl contender. You can never count out the Jaguars, either, who have already started to rebound with a win over the Chargers this week. And the Titans, the defending Super Bowl champs, haven't missed a beat...they sit at 3-0 also.
We don't see the Colts again until Week 13. That's a long ways away, considering that its only Week 3. We usually don't like to talk about future games, much less games that we won't have to worry about for another 10 weeks. But I will say that I think we played a great game against the Colts last week, and if we can come out and do some of the same things next time, we have a chance. Peyton's gonna rack up some yardage, nothing we can do about that. But if we can force some turnovers, we have a good shot at pulling off another victory. One thing I would like to improve on for next time is the running game. We weren't able to establish Bennett as a consistant force on the ground, and I think its important that we get a running game going early on in our 2nd matchup.
As an offense do you think anyone can stop you or would it be more of a situtation where you guys stop yourselves when you look at last years success carried over to this season?

Last year, we were an offensive powerhouse. We were gonna score, and you were going to have to score more if you were going to beat us. There was no real strategy to it...we just wanted to get the ball down field as quickly as possible, and get it in the end zone.
This year, we're more of a balanced team. Yes, I believe we have a good offense, but not "unstoppable" by any means. The secret to our success so far hasn't been our offense, but our defense...more specifically, creating turnovers. We have at least 2 INTs in every game we've played, and we've won the turnover battle every week so far. If we keep getting turnovers without giving them up, I see no reason why we can't continue our success.
You say you are a more balanced team this year, but against the Cowboys you continued to air it out even when you where up twenty plus. You did rush for over a hundred yards but it seemed you where focused more on passing.
Were you intentionally focused on passing against the Cowboys even though they gave up over 200 yards rushing the previous two games?

No, our gameplan was really to run it more for this game. I wouldn't say we "aired it out"...after all, we did run the ball 34 times. I guess, being up for as long as we were, we probably should have given it to the running backs even more, but I don't think our running backs will ever see too much more than 34 carries.
