Chargers Press Conference Week 2

Well... That was quite a game. We knew going in that it was going to be tough. We weren't disapointed. With that said...

Offense:
I'd be lying if I said we did everything we wanted to do on offense. We weren't expecting some of the defensive plays that came at us. Specifically the blitzes. I can't count how many times our offensive line dominated at the line, only to find out that they blitzed one more guy than we had blockers on that play. More than one handoff was cut short while the DT's were 5-7 yards off the line and still going backward but that one guy was right there at the handoff.

I must say hats off to the defensive coordinator of the bungles. I'm just happy that with big risks, come big plays. And this game it went both ways. Our playermaker made a play. Thanks LT.

Defense:
I'm very happy with most of the things we did here. Given their talent in both QB and Wide outs I'm very happy with the results and limiting them to a single touchdown and under 300 yards... Jammer taking one back was a huge effect on the rest of the game.

We didn't pressure the QB as much as I thought we should have, but we did have alot of hussel from the Dline making tackles down field when Rudi did get through and catching him in a juke or took a good line.

Special Teams:
Well... A fumble for a TD is always a nice sight. But it's the four field goals I'm really happy with. The punter did his thing, the kicker did his thing, and the punt returner made the right decision... The chips just happened to fall our way.


In closing before I take questions I just want to say that I'm a bit old school. It's the Offenses job to score 20 points. The Defenses job to stop the other team from scoring 20 points. Scoring on defense is the same as negating a TD for the other team... With that in mind... I get to continue to look to the offense to see where we can make changes to make them more productive because of the outstanding play of the D.

Is there any chance of Rivers taking over the QB job full time this season?

Your run offense seems pretty dominant after the past two games.

a) Do you think the Tomlinson will be able to keep up these kinds of numbers throught the season?

b) How much of his success would you attribute to the dual threat of Favre/Tomlinson?

There is always a chance. In fact, we're hopeful for it. Favre new the score when coming to the Chargers. He earned the starting spot, if he wants to keep it he has to out perform the other two quarterbacks. So far he has done that.

A) As long as the defenses we play back off the line a bit to stop the pass... Yes. Absolutely. Our running game was one of the best last year. Our Oline just got better and LT is still... LT. I see no reason for this trend not to continue unless teams take some major pains to stop it. But on the flip side, if they take those pains, we'll try to take advantage of those things.

B) Well... I'm not going to say that it's all the QB, or all the HB either way. It's a marriage. Both know what their job is, and if they both do it... One of them is going to have a good day.
