Giants Week 2 PC

Duke Raoul walks into the Giants' Public Relations room and begins to speak.....

"Whew!. I'm very happy to walk away from this game with a win, but there are some areas that we will need to improve before we face the Panthers next week."

"We jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the game after Tiki's long TD run and Manning's 74 yard bomb to Shockey. The Bears were quick to bounce back, making the score 14-10 at the half. Eli then called his own number and managed to sneak the ball into their endzone to make the score 21-10. They then managed to make it 21-17 after Boldin found the endzone. Our offense seemed to stall a bit in the final quarter and we managed to kick a field goal to go up by a touchdown. They stormed back and tied it at 24 late in the 4th. With the game tied, Shaun Williams came up HUGE for us with an interception that put us within field goal range. Sebastian Janikowski then make a game winning filed goal as time expired."

"So, what did we do right this game? I think we had a much more balanced offense this game. Tiki started at halfback for us and really got the offense going when he busted loose for a big touchdown run in the first quarter. He ended up with 23 carries and Eli finished with 29 pass attempts. I thought our O-line did a good job of protecting Eli for the most part and they also were a huge factor in Tiki's 104 yard game. Eli played well for us today. He threw and rushed for a touchdown and managed to rack up over 250 yards. We've been working with him on not turning the ball over and we feel today's game could go a long ways to restoring his confidence and getting him back on track."

"I was hoping that we would be able to generate more turnovers this game. Shaun's interception late in the final quarter was huge for us and we hope our D can build of it and create more fumbles and interceptions in the upcoming weeks."

"It's now up to our coaching staff to come up with a good game plan for our game against the Panthers. I know that there are some things we could be doing better and it will be up to our coaches to devise a plan of attack that will result in a victory. Fans can expect to see some more changes for next week's game but I will not elaborate on those changes at this time."

"Are there any questions?"

(thanks to Short, the One & Silent Tom for their updates)

Tiki looked good out there today. He was able to find some holes and make some big plays for us. I still don't think our running game is exactly where we want it to be yet, but it's getting there.

Tiki's performance did impress us and he will get more chances to carry the ball, but I'm not going to name our #1 back at this point in time. Idealy, we would like to see Walter Reyes get his share of carries, but we will have to go with the more effective back and at this point that does appear to be Tiki. We spoke with both players and discussed the possibility of them splitting carries. Both players said that they will accept any role as long as is contributes to helping our team win. Fans can expect Tiki and Walter to get some carries next game as we believe that both players can be used as effective backs.

So, to answer your question, no Tiki Barber is not our #1 back at this point in time but his performance today will ensure that he sees plenty of action in the upcoming weeks.

Next question please.

With your next game against the Panthers, do you think your running game will suffer at all? Your passing game has been fairly effective up to this point. Do you feel that itll be up to Eli to win the game for you? How happy are you with his progress, and do you think the Giants can continue to be effective with him throwing on an average of 44 pass attempts per game?

I expect that we will be able to run the ball well against the Panthers. They have a decent D-line, but we expect to be able to create some holes in the middle for Walter and Tiki to run through. They are a young team are we hope that the veterans on our O-line will be able to create space for our running game which will take some of the pressure off of Eli.

It will take a team effert to win next week, just like any week. We never expect Eli to win us games as much as we want him not to lose them. Sure, it is great to see him throwing TDs and rushing into the endzone like he did today, but we will be happy with him as long as he can effectively move the ball downfield and limit the number of turnovers. As I previously mentioned, we had no intention of throwing as often as we did in our first game. We just found ourselves trailing the defending champs and wanted to get as many offensive plays as possible while keeping time on the clock so we had a chance to come back. Eli played well today and was not responsible for any turnovers which is huge in our eyes. We feel that we can compete with any team in this league as long as we limit our turnovers.

I feel as though Eli picked his game up a notch this week and I look forward to seeing him in action against the Panthers. We do like to throw the ball because we have alot of good receivers on this team including Ike Hilliard (91), Amani Toomer (91), Jeremy Shockey (95), Tiki Barber (who is rated 91 at WR) and Terrence Murphy who had over 1000 receiving yards in his 2005 rookie season. Passing the ball has won us some big games, but we do realize that we will have to get more from our running game in order to have a more potent offense. I feel that Tiki's performance today went a long way as far as restoring some faith in our rushing attack and I feel as though either of our backs can help us win some more games.

Are there any more questions?

You mentioned that your offence was more balanced this week, and the stats do speak for themselves on this matter. Did you make any changes in gameplan to create this, or was it just the way the game played out?

Thank you for your question.

We did make some changes to our game plan which resulted in a more balanced offense this week. The thing everyone has to remember is that game plans are sometimes thrown out the window when you find yourselves in a hole or trying to defend a lead. We found ourselves going for broke alot in our first game and today's game was more typical of the style we want to play. We made some questionable play calls today, including rushing the ball on some third and longs, but I was pleased with the overall result.

Our game plan will continue to change from week to week, depending on our oppenents and the stategy we feel will help put us in the best possible position to win games.

Are there any more questions?
