49ers week2.

OFFENSE: The positives were that we ran the ball well and we kept Walter on his feet most of the game. The Negatives, well, we couldn't seem to get any sort of passing game going. I give a lot of credit to the Lions and thier coach on this he distrupted our receivers and kept Walter checking down to the Backs most of the game. I think we utilized Mike Williams wrong in this game and will be making a change once again there. We have to do something to be more in rythm on offense, and thats my job.

DEFENSE: Just amazing what they did. The Lions Punter was booming punts all day long hitting his first one for 78 yards. They should really thank thier punter that they even kept the game as close as they did. Our defense tore through them and kept pushing them back most of the game. They had -12 rushing yards at halftime. And while they finished the game with over 200 passing yards almost 80 of that came on the last drive while we were in a deep zone because they needed two scores. Six sacks is a lot better than last week, and I just want to say that I am very proud of Carlos Hall for what he did out there, he was a beast.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Left something to be desired. Our kicker did make some big LONG 54+ yard kicks in the game that we needed, but he also missed one from about 40. Mike williams was below average in the return game and our kick coverage team needs some work.

Overall I think we took a good step forward on defense while taking a small step back on offense. We will change some things up and get ready for a Cardinals team that shocked us in the first game we played against them last year and put up a great fight against the Chargers in week 1.

Any Q's?

I noticed Brian Urlacher in at RE most of the game. Is this a trend we can expect to continue?

Brian came to me and asked if he could play on the line. We wanted to get Woody Dantzler and Odell Thurman some time and it worked out. This will be something that you will probably see off and on throughout the year.

You said you used Mike Williams wrong in this game, does that mean his time in the backfield is done, or do you think this is just a product of the Lions athletic front seven?

We used Mike as a 3rd down back in an attempt to give Jamal some rest. We also wanted him to return kicks and since league rules say a TE can't return kicks we made him a HB for the game. With or cap situation we are sutck moving players to different positions where the league will only let them play in certain spots.

We are just trying to find the right spot for both Mike and Woody D at this point and I think I have it figured out.

With Walter's passing woes this past week do you feel that you may simplify the offense for him abit until he gets into his groove or will you just let him stick it out?

I don't think the problems in the passing game are because of Walter. And I have a plan to fix that.

Are you more proud of the fact that your D-Line made 6 sacks or that your O-line game up none?

I think we expected more than 7 sacks from our Defensive line in 2 games. But NO sacks allowed by this Offensive line that according to all the people making predictions was our major downgrade and question mark this year is just amazing to me. I really am proud of that and hope that they can keep up this level of play. I am VERY PLEASED with the way the Rookie HAND has been playing and am glad we took him in the second round when we did.

Thats not to take away from the Dline at all. They are doing an excellent job. The difference is that I think everyone expected our Dline to be dominant including me. The play of the offensive line is a pleasant surprise. I think things will become tougher as we go up against some of the better defensive lines later in the season.
