Packers' Week 2 Press Conference

*GM LaRocque approaches the podium.*

Hello everyone, let me just start by saying things could not have gone better following what transpired last week. We were completely dominant all game on both sides of the ball. Hats off to the coaching staff for a solid gameplan.

Let me start off with the offense. Tatum Bell once again had a fantastic day, bettering last weeks performance by 40 yards and a touchdown. The moves he was putting on the Patriots defense had the fans so suprised I could hear them "oohing" from several rows back as he turned a one yard loss into a 8 yard gain. His 152 yards per game and 5.1 yards per carry average have the organization very happy. I could easily spend this whole time praising Tatum, but this game was an outstanding effort made by the entire team. Josh (McCown) was very efficient as he completed 70% of his passes for 205 yards and a TD. What impressed me most was he didn not force anything...if there was no-one open and he had room to run, he was aware and went and in doing so picked up a few key first downs. Before I move onto the defense, I also would like to praise the offensive line for pushing the Patriots' d-line all over the place and to the receivers who each found a way to get open as five of them picked up at least twenty yards.

What can I say about this defensive performance except stellar. They held the Patriots led by young hotshot Reggie Bush to 97 total yards and more importantly a defensive shutout. This is the same Reggie bush who had people all over the league gawking as he single-handedly compiled 298 yards and three touchdowns. Instead he got a mere 48. Watching these guys go out there and shut them down like that made my spine tingle.

Finally, special teams...After a good performance by Longwell in week one, eyebrows were raised at our decision to start youngster Nick Novack in week two. Simply put, we are happy with our decision as he was a solid five for five including three from just under 50 yards and had another three extra points. The job is his to lose. Rookie punter Kyle Basler is in the same position, due to the offense's success he was rarely called upon but when he was he came through averaging 45 yards a punt to bring his average up to on the year ( more than Sander's average last year. The only problem we saw in this entire game was the return game...our guys did a great job blocking for Davis and gave him several oppurtunities to make returns, but a second fumble in as many weeks have lost him the job. Who will replace him is still up in the air and we will be evaluating a few players in the coming week of practices.

That is all I have to say, any questions?

Sorry, that is 41.25 punt average up 3 yards from Sander's last year.

You must feel really really good about your dominating defensive performance. The Patriots staff complained all week about how they deserved more respect. Do you think them worrying about respect from reporters and such led to them not planning for your team?

Did you make any huge differences in game strategy, and what did you do to tame the wild Bush?

Bell continues to play extremely well. He seems to have taken to your offensive game style and is putting up exceptional numbers. Did you ever think he would be this good when you made the move to get him?

Whether they did or not is not really my concern. If that is indeed true then they deserved what they got in the blowout. It is their job to plan for the team they are playing next. If they want more respect, I will tell them what I do my own guys...keep doing what you're doing, eventually people will take notice.

In all honesty, well we saw Bush as dangerous we focused on stopping the pass. With Mike (McKenzie) and Al (Harris) matching well against their receivers and support from Sharper, Carter and Carroll it allowed our front seven to focus solely on the backfield whether it was stuffing Bush or pressuring the QBs into sacks and INTs. A strong rushing offense and efficient passing game also kept them off the field for much of the game.

Simply put, we are extremely pleased at the performances Tatum has given us. When critics around the league questioned the move we felt he was being a bit underrated and that he would put up good enough numbers. The 132 yards last week was about what we expected from him, but when he put up 172 yards today we were pleasently suprised. We are happy with where this organization is going.

Hey Coach, can you comment on McCown's performance thus far? Has the team adjusted to him as their new leader?

We have been very pleased with the play of McCown thus far. He played well in week one with the exception of a couple turnovers. This week he was just awesome. Very efficient, mistake free and 20 rushing yards to boot. We are happy to have him at QB. As far as leadership, our offense is full of a lot of young, new faces. He had previous time in Arizona so he has started to become a leader but at the same time he is being led just as much by our veteran receivers and lineman.
