Rams Week 1 PC

*Coach Tice walks in and steps up to the podium*

'Greetings, today was one heck of a game between two good teams. There didn't seem to be much defense as both teams racked up over 400 yards of offense.'

'Offensively, there isn't much I can complain about. We played a really solid game. Mark was 21 out of 29 for 224 yards and a touchdown. He had almost 200 yards at half, and we started to run the ball more, that's when Corey broke both his long runs. Steve Smith playing in his first game as a pro getting over 100 yards. And we didn't allow a sack.'

'Defensively, well, I don't think we could have stopped anyone today, and to be honest, I am surprized we stopped them on the last play of the game to keep from going into overtime. Dat Nguyen had a great game with 3 sacks, and we constantly had pressure on Young, it's a testimate to the young mans skill and talent that he was able to throw for over 300 yards with that kind of pressure on him.'

'That being said, it's nice to start out the year and my first game as the Rams head coach with a win...floor is open for questions....'

Hey coach, congrats on the win...

You guys did allow really big play, a 66 yard pass to Michael Jenkins, his lone catch of the day...what went wrong on that one?

It was a blown coverage and Jenkins got behind our safeties, Young made a nice pass and the result was a touchdown.

What needs to be done to get Torry back on track after a slow start?

I don't see that as a slow start Torry.

He had 5 catches. 2 of those were on 3rd down which convered into 1st. Also, Gary Baxter is an excellant corner. Actually he was someone we looked at trying to aquire before going into the free agent market and getting Ty.

We have 4 very fast, capable receivers. Today it was Steve Smith's comming out party and his day. I am sure Torry will have his share of days.

What kind of changes will you be making to try to jumpstart your defense after this performance?

its early but based on what you seen out of dillion is it what you expected or more? Will you work your game plan more around dillion with his recent success?

I think we were too lax in our coverages. To many zone coverages. We got amazing pressure on Young, sacking him 7 times, and hit him many more. I think we are going to be more agressive in our defensive play calling.

Because of the pressure we got on the quaterback, there is no reason he should have thrown for those kinds of yards.

We were overly pleased at the production of Corey this game. And it is much more than we expected. That being said, I don't see us changing that much offensively unless this continues for several weeks.

Is there any truth to the rumor that you are going to play Ty Law at WR, QB, and RB to justify his contract? haha jk

Seriously.

I noticed both of your rookie DT got sacks and were constantly pushing the 'Hawks offensive line back into the backfield. When you drafted these two is this what you expected ? Do you think these two played a big role in Dat being able to get to Young 3 times?

With his speed, hands and awareness, I am sure Ty would make an excellant WR. But, he would be the slowest WR on the roster, which I find amusing.

Is it what I expected? I would have to answer that question no. Not yet, anyway. Hoped for? Yes.

We were consistantly getting through their offensive line, with Watson and Harris pushing back the linemen into the backfield caused a lot of disruption. I believe that played a great role in Dat being so effective.

We handed out several. The first was to Steve Smith, who in his first game as a pro, stepped up with 5 catches for over 100 yards, and 2 spectaculer catches along the sidelines. The second went to Corey Dillon, 190 yards and 2 TD's. And last, to Dat Nguyen for 3 sacks and 7 tackles.

There are a few more players that had performances worth of consideration, but I didn't want to hand out like 7 balls.
