Cowboys Draft Press Conf (2006)

Cowboys owner Chaos6 enters the room followed by HC Parcells and other members of the Cowboys staff.

Chaos-Ok. I have called this Press Conference to give the media an opportunity to ask the questions they have been burning to ask about some of our off-season moves.

I know there are many upset fans due to our lack of any draft picks this season. But I feel that the talent we brought to this team in place of those draft picks has really put us in position to be an elite offensive force this season. We chose this season to use our draft picks to get guys that we already knew what they were.

The addition of Benson seriously upgrades our offensive backfield, and due to his youth he is essentially the equivalent of a top draft pick.

Bringing in Pro-Bowler Delhomme gives us one of the most experienced field generals in the game today. We paid a high price to bring him here, but we felt it was well worth it. This will give Anderson some time to learn the game and develop into a solid player and still allow us to have a shot at winning games. A lot of games.

We also made a move that brought some much needed youth to our Offensive line by trading for Dunn. We don’t believe we could have gotten any one in the draft with that second round pick that would equal his talent.

With the loss of Campbell to free agency, we used our 3rd to get a talented replacement in Johnson.

We upgraded our D line by adding Tony Williams for a great price of a 6th and 7th.

I realize many of you out there look forward to the draft; it’s almost a holiday to some people. But we felt that the moves we made were all solid and we knew exactly what we were getting. The Draft is a gamble and we didn’t want to chance anything this season with the holes we needed to fill. I assure all the Fans that we will be back in the War Room next draft picking some very good young talent.

Any questions?

Do you believe your teams morale dropped after losing Nyugen?

How do you feel about your current CB situation and will this team make any moves to get some more wiggle room for Free Agency with only 2.74 million left in cap space.

I think that any time you loose a player the caliber that Dat was, you do loose something. But we also feel that the move was productive to our future. We have a couple of young talented line backers that we drafted last year that we feel are ready to get on the field and contribute. Can they replace the leadership and experience of Dat? Not today. But they need to get out there and develop.

I think our corners were one of our strengths last season. They are all very fast and talented. Hunter has learned the game very quickly and rarely makes a mental error and Perkins was in the running last season for Defensive Rookie. Newman is one of the top young coners in the league.

As for our cap situation, you have to realise we have 4 or 5 guys that we are currently working to get resigned to new deals after bringing them in via trade. That alone should clear up some more cap room.

But we dont see spending much in the free agent market this season. We feel we have all our starters we need currently on our roster. We only need to add some depth in a few places via free agency.
