I actually own both, well technically I own a 360 and my roommate owns the PS3, but nonetheless - they're both good systems. That said, I would surely give the edge to the 360. Better games, better online, and the Achievement points system is quite fun.
I always buy the newest consoles... but have not been compelled to buy a PS3. I don't see the point. The 360 is cheaper. You are forced to pay for a Blue-Ray drive when buying the PS3, but we don't know who will win the war yet between blue ray and HDDVD.
The systems are about the same as far as performance... The PS2 does have 1080p capabilities which the 360 does not, but games aren't really going to be made in that resolution till the next generation of consoles are released.
Controllers are a personal preference but I have to say the Xbox 360 controller is my new favorite controller of all time (over the xbox controller S).
The PS3 has HDMI which is better quality than the component video you get with a 360, but the new 360 elites which are still $140 cheaper than PS3 come with an HDMI output.
If the PS3 was to have something that blew the doors off the 360 I would buy it.. but the games that are on both platforms are going to be the SAME. That leaves you with games that are on one and not the other.
For that I go advantage Gears Of War/ Halo series...
The only thing PS3 has on 360 is the ability to play PS2 games... for that they get a bunch of people who owned PS2's buying the system, but I personally don't want to play OLD games anymore.. I want the new stuff to be good enough to not force me to play the old ones.
So if you don't have one... and you play Madden... I have a 360 and don't have plans to buy a PS3 (maybe never) so if I ever run a tourney or anything you will need a 360 to be in it.
That's my input on this... it's all opinion and I don't want to argue with any Sony fan boys about anything.. I am just giving my input I really don't see the point in this turning into a (this console is better) debate, because I think they are the same... but the 360 is cheaper.

First off, an opinion cannot be wrong....its an OPINION
Ok, good. In my opinion, you're an idiot. Good thing I can't be wrong!
Timothy 2:12
Argh, my thoughts exactly, Cash. I mean, seriously. The main reason the PS3 cost so much money is because of the Blu-Ray player, which may not even win the format war in the long run - so I find it pretty worthless.
I like the 360, well, because it has better games, and it feels like it's more about playing those games, where as the PS3 is more about Blu-Ray movies, and loading music onto it and such, which honestly doesn't interest me in a gaming console.
Just my thoughts, but if anyone hasn't decided yet, I'd definently give the edge to the 360, based on the fact that it's a gaming console and you'll get a lot of life out of it with some good games on it too.
I'm still using an original Xbox. It has a mod chip and big hard drive, so I can copy or burn any rented games, movies, music, porn, etc to it and not pay a cent....making it less appealing to go out and spend a big chuck on money on another gaming system. I have Madden 2007 on my PC and that is good enough for now. My gf and I have a baby on the way, so I can't see myself dropping much coin into a new system (or having much time to enjoy it).
If I do get something new, It will be an Xbox 360. I do a lot of work for Microsoft and can get Xbox 360 games & accessories uber cheap, so it would be the best move for me. One Microsoft discount program (MS 360 games for $10) some of you might qualify for is mentioned HERE. They are currently offering Xbox 360 Bundles (Premium console that has 20 GB, additional wireless controller, Gears of War, and Viva Piñata included) to qualifying retail associates for $389. Some of you might want to check it out if you (or a family member) work in retail. The 360s seem less expensive here (no idea why) in Canada so the deal isn't as great for me but some of you may like it.
I had a Ps One back in the day, then I got a X-box, then I bought a PS2 to play Madden online. Now I have a XBOX 360 and I do not plan on buying a PS3 dued to the fact that there's not a dominate feature that totally separates the two systems. I will stick with my 360 untill the PS3 gets cheaper. Madden 07 was wack on both of them anyways. Hopefully that changes in '08.

I still play on my Ps2, voted for Ps3 (Play it all the time at my friends house), have the 360 and don't play it that much.. Will be buying the Ps3 sometime this summer.. but for now I still play my current gen Ps2.
Haven't really played the PS3, save for one time in a Gamestop for like 8 seconds. I like my 360...when it's working, that is. Mine has been on it's way out for a while and finally just stopped reading my discs last week, so I gotta send it in and get a new one...I get it for free because I got one of those defective ones that came out before January 1st, 2006 (I believe that was the cutoff date). Hopefully 2nd time's a charm and I can get a good, smooth-running 360.
Yeah but anyway, I voted 360 because I can't imagine the PS3 warrants its hefty price tag, and I'm satisfied with the 360 (when I'm able to play it).
The original question is which is the better console. I answer that by saying that the PS3 is the better console. The 360 easily is a far better value at this point, better selection of games, better online features, and at a smaller cost, the entertainment per dollar value is much higher.
That being said...
I could care less who wins the "format war" because honestly I'm not that interested in movies. I buy a game console for games, period. So Blu-ray doesn't win the format war, that is fine with me. What it does do is offers developers 25g to work with. Yeah, so they can pack HD stuff to the brim and a bunch of other random things that all of us are crying for.
A lot of people are upset about the new ESPN Radio announcer on the newer Madden games, but imagine this. Blu-Ray offers the additional space for EA to go out and get 32 team radio guys doing the announcing for the home team. Announcers getting excited about their home team, their players bringing it to their endzone. Think of all the things that developers will be able to do in the coming years.
It is widely known that the PS3 has been apparently very hard to develop games for, which means that of course it's going to take developers a bit longer to get in step with the process. Be sure of this though, the PS3 is the better console and will eventually be a better entertainment value.
That was a great post Bluff and I agree with everything you said. In fact you took the words out of my mouth. The PS3 is very pricey, but it will be worth the price in the long run. Even right now if you compare the PS3 in HD and the 360 in HD on the same tv and the same game, side by side, the PS3 looks much better. In fact you can find links to these videos on the internet, I have seen a few on YouTube.
The PS3 just has more potential and that potential is being realized with every game release and especialy with games that are developed every year (Madden, Live, 2k, NCAA). The Blu-Ray might not have the advantage over HD DVD right now, but like Bluff said, the 25 gigs that programmers can pack onto a Blu-Ray disk make it much more attractive in the next few years.
The Cell, which is the processor that runs the PS3, is one of the most interesting pieces of the PS3. Heck there are already classes at MIT studying the Cell to learn about future processing technology as well as how to develop with it. The Cell is what is going to push the PS3 over top of the 360 in the next few years.
Dont get me wrong, the 360 is great, but the PS3 just has more room to grow.

I rather think what they should be able to do NOW. To my knowledge there is one game that requires more than one processor. ONE. Games have yet to utilize the technology that's out there. So... It's really a null point for me at this juncture. Neither console is living up to it's potential.

And that is generally true, NG stuff always comes out right as the CG is reaching it's prime. I would say 2010 would be the first year that we really begin to see the NG (at that point CG) consoles start to blow our socks off. I was pretty stoked that NBA07 was in full 1080p though.
Im still playing CG Xbox...And I dont play it that much unless friends are over. I cant justify spending the money on either...
Though I have played both quite a bit, and of the two, 360 has appealed to me more. Though a lot of the features on the PS3 seem "Smooth". To be honest, there is very little difference between the two that I can see playing them both NOW.
But I prefer the 360 controllers, and its price. If I was to get one, it would be that..

Oh... And that one game that I know about that requires more than one processor you play a PC vs Xbox. ShadowRun I believe it was.

I respectfully disagree with you on that Bluff and Nish.
I think as a gaming console, the 360 is the better system. As a home entertainment device, I'd say the PS3 is better. That said, I don't know many who buy a PS3 for the Blu-Ray player, music capabilities, and various other tools it has. Most buy it for the gaming, and Sony has slacked off dramatically on good game production. The launch titles were all pretty bad, except for one, and even now it's really not impressive, nor will it be anytime soon.
What you said about PS3 games becoming easier to produce as time goes on is true in a sense, but it will always be far more difficult than making a 360 game. There are several reasons for this - one being that the unified shaders that the Xbox 360 utilizes allows for extremely easy development in the sense they do not have to use dozens of other shader pipelines for textures and such. Thus, PS3 game production will always be longer, and much more costly.
Also the Cell in the PS3 is an extremely stripped down version of it's original form, and would be lucky to be 50% of what the original version is. It's also very difficult to work with because IBM meant for it to be used primarily in servers, and not so much a gaming console. That said, it's still very powerful, but again - it keeps the cost of the PS3 up, and it's not worth it.
I agree with you about the formats, it doesn't matter to me who wins the 'format war', as long as it's sometime in the near future. I agree though that Blu-Ray or HD-DVD will be needed in the future for more space, and the Blu-Ray holds a lot more than 25 GB, lol. Dual Layer at least. Of course in five years, or however long it may be, I'm sure the 360 will have some sort of upgrade to give it blu-ray or HD-DVD, and by then it'll be much cheaper. Right now, it's not needed so much. Soon though.
Then, from a purely finacial stand point, Sony has literally made awful decisions. I believe they're losing over 200 dollars on every console sold (or somewhere in that ball park), where as Microsoft loses about half that - which is why Microsoft is finally starting to make money back on the 360, and Sony has many, many, years to go before it will be profitable, and at the rate it's selling, might be even longer.
Sony got greedy, they thought people would buy their console at $600 dollars, because it had their label on it and they thought three or four exclusive titles would sell it alone. They were wrong on this point, as it's sales are still terrible in comparison to the 360 and Wii.
Until the PS3 drops to around the price of an Xbox 360 Elite, I can't see it selling anytime soon, and when it does drop, they'll still be losing a boat load of money.
Now, that all having been said, I really hope Sony turns it around and starts paying attention to the gamers and titles they put out. I like Sony a lot, I love a lot of their franchise games like Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid, but I wouldn't buy one just to play those games. The only reason I actually can comment on how the PS3 preforms is because my roommate owns one, and I have a chance to play it quite a bit - and right now, the 360 has better graphics, but my guess is, it won't last too long.
Well, that was rather drawn out - and while I may feel passionately about this, I still respect both of your opinions on the PS3, and I really hope Sony turns it around in the future. Until then, I'll stick to the 360 - and a Wii, one of these days when I get some money to spend to buy one of course.
I agree with pretty much everything you said. I decided to purchase the PS3 now because I think in the long run the costs will be the same if you have to upgrade your 360 to HD DVD or Blu-Ray not to mention the extra pice of a large HD.
The 360 does have better graphics now and does cost less. I just felt that the investment of 600 dollars now would be sufficient without having to upgrade the PS3 much in the next 5 years or so. I loved all the features that come with the PS3, HDMI 1.3, 1080p, memory card readers, ect.
The one thing that I am upset over is the ability, but lack of options connecting you PS3 to my Windows Media Center. That is one feature i l9ove about the 360, but that will be fixed in the PS3 firmware updates in the future.
Like I said, the 360 s a good deal for now, but I went for the options downt he road and purchased a PS3.
See thats where I'm at. I don't want to buy a system that I have to buy accessories for, the only upgrades I want to have to worry about should be two things.
1. Free
2. Firmware

I would just like to point out to the people who are posting about blue ray and the capacity on it that games don't even use the 4.7 gigs allowed in a DVD now adays..
Space on a disc is not what keeps a game from having more stuff in it... developement time is what does it. A DVD still has more than enough space and isn't even being half used by most games..
So that arugement was pointless...
HDMI 1.3 doesn't mean anything.. 1080p is great .. if it was used which it isn't so who cares..
Everything you guys are saying make the PS3 better wont be used until the Next line of consoles comes out anyway.. hell Madden just went to 60 fps... 1080p in games as a mainstream is a long way off.
The 360 has better Graphics. (Fact)
The 360 has better games. (My opinion.. but Halo rules)
The 360 has better controllers. (Once again my opinion but I love them)
Saying that one thing is better than the other because it has a bunch of useless features to me is silly. I take the usable features.. and use them.

I was always a PS guy ... Me and Cash had a whole bunch of these discussions .... then I got the XBOX 360 from my boys as a X-Mas gift ... And lets just say I don't plan on switching ....
Game wise there was only one game that i loved that Xbox didn't have .... Grand Theft Auto .... but they now offer the new one ...
Other than that the graphics are better and the controller although I wasn't a big fan ... grew on me and is just a matter of trying something new ....
Never in a million years would i vote against PS ... and then a million years went by in a few months ... =)

HDMI 1.3 is much better quality than the 360's compontents.
Resistance Fall of Man uses around 20 Gigs of the Blu-Ray disk...
There are no PS3 games out right now that play in full 1080p, the firmware was just updated to scale games up to 1080p. It is extremely likely that you see 1080p games not too far down the road.
Also, these useless features are only useless if you decide not to use them. In order for you to use them in the future on the 360 you have to purchase add ons. Now if you arent going to use them regardless, then it really doesnt matter one way or the other. I use the extra PS3 features and am glad I dont have to purchase addons in the future to use them to their full capabilities.
HDMI 1.3 is much better quality than the 360's compontents.
Really? Show me something other than a Sony fanboy saying that.... And I'll show you 100 articles from people who know what they are talking about saying the difference is negligible.

Yes.. you spent $660 on 1 game go you..

I doubt this.. more like 5 years down the road.. When the new xbox comes out with newer better stuff anyway..
