Texans Owner/GM Shawn Wilson and Texans Head Coach Jim Johnson are seated behind a table, ready to answer questions from reporters.
Mr. Wilson: The floor is now open for questions...
Reporter 1: Yes, I have a question. What are your feelings on the season that has just completed, and what are your expectations for the upcoming season?
Mr. Wilson: Well, I definitley saw a lot of positives out there on the field this past season, but I don't think any coach is going to be impressed or even satisfied with a 7-9 season. The "expansion team" excuse is wearing pretty thin, its really time for us to step it up and take it to the next level. We have the talent, that I know. Its just a matter of putting it all together and realizing our potential on the field.
As far as next season is concerned, I expect big things. I'm not gonna make any predictions or anything, but lets just say I expect us to be very competitive. I mentioned in my last press conference, we're doing some good things. Just look at our offensive yardage...a Sim League record in YPG. But so far the big yardage has not equaled points, and thats something we need to work on to win some more games.
Reporter 2: Over here! Mr. Wilson, what are your plans for the offseason?
Mr. Wilson: Well as I just said, our offense set some records...so we're not gonna make too many changes there. We do have a void at TE where Dwayne Carswell is a free agent...we will try to resign him if he'll agree to a reasonable price, but if not we'll get one elsewhere. We're considering upgrading our offensive line, because of Carr's high INT number. My theory is that if he has better protection, he'll have more time to think and will make better throws.
Our defense has to play better, plain and simple. And if that means changing some guys around and bringing some new guys in, then that's what we'll do. I'd love to have a monster DE to be a serious threat to opposing QBs. Maybe an impact DT to stuff opposing RBs. Other than that, I don't think you'll see too many changes.
Reporter 3: What is your opinion of Michael Bennett as a featured HB?
Mr. Wilson: I'll let Coach Johnson handle this one, I know he loves that kid...
Coach Johnson: He's an amazing player. I know David (Carr) gets all the credit for our offense, but its time to give credit where credit is due. Bennett not only led the running game that went for 100+ yards per game and rushed for 1431 yards, but he is also one of the best, if not THE best receiving HB. He led all HBs with over 500 yards receiving, which brought his total yards from scrimmage to just under 2000. 15 total TDs is good enough for me, and tied for 7th among HBs. Call me crazy, but I think this kid is a top 5 HB in the NFL.
Well, your in a very strong division no doubt, with Peyton Manning and the Colts who won the division last year, and the Superbowl champs. And we most not forget about the Jaguars, who did great last year too for what the division is like. With know all that, where in your division do you think you'll end up?

btw, I love your new sig, lol

For Madden people the best way to explain it is that he has a very low awareness.

Coach Johnson: I'll take this one. Like we said before, we really don't want to make predictions. We don't want to jinx ourselves, but also we don't want to make our players cocky with a strong prediction, or lower their morale with a weak one.
But I will say that its pretty much a consensus that we play in the top division in the league. The Titans and the Colts are undoubtedly top 5 teams, and heck, you can argue that they're the BEST two teams in the league. And then there's the Jaguars, who like us, suffer a little bit from playing in such a tough division. They're a playoff caliber team, I don't think there's anyone that really wants to play them.
But with all that said, we're not gonna make any excuses. It is what it is, we have to make the best of the hand that was dealt to us. We're definitley a team that has playoff aspirations
Thank you for your question, any others?

Is there anyone in the up and coming FA that catches you attention?

Mr. Wilson: We've been pretty busy around here, and haven't had a chance to really look into FA in detail just yet. And we don't really like to disclose specific players we are interested in, anyway. But I'll tell you one player that caught our interest, and that's Michael Strahan. There's a chance you could see him in a Texans uniform next season if we can come to terms on a short term deal...assuming he doesn't retire from the NFL.
Thanks for the question, all other questions are welcome...
with Carswell contract coming close to an end, what do you have planned for him next year? Free Agency or Franchising him?

He won't be seeing the tag, unless its a sign and trade. We definitley need a TE...and right now, our options are wide open. We could draft one, or we could pick one up in FA...Carswell being one of the candidates in FA. We were pleased with his performance here in Houston, and would love to have him back.
Thanks for the question...again. Haha, does anyone else have a question?
So, with no other big named players of your going into free agency, you are willing to take a risk and not using your Franchise tag this year?

Mr. Wilson: Yes, that's correct. We are still contemplating using it on our kicker, Kris Brown, but that's our only other consideration. I've always loved the tag for trading, but the tag comes with a very high salary that I'm not so sure we can afford to pay right now. So our options with the tag stand at sign and trade with Carswell, sign and keep Kris Brown, or we could just not use it at all.
Thank you, once again, for your question. Floor still open for questions...
You say you need a TE, and I know that the Chargers have been fishing Antonio Gates around. Are there any chances that you would be in the market for him and possibly cut a deal there? He is younger and one of the best Tight Ends in the league today. Your thoughts??
Your team is often overlooked, do you like it that way...Being able to creep up on people?

Mr. Wilson: Antonio is definitley one of the best young TEs in the league...however, our offense is more suitable to a blocking TE, rather than a receiving TE. And if we do decide to go for a receiving TE, Alge Crumpler, who's a free agent, would be our top target.

Coach Johnson: Yeah, it gives the players and us coaches more motivation; we feel like we have something to prove. But believe me when I say we have one hell of a team here, and we WILL sneak up on some people.
Thanks for the questions guys. Any further questions will now be answered...
