Chargers Press Confrence Week 8

*Tigam enters the room*

Well... That was a interesting developement. What can I say? We were made to play a game we didn't want to play. We had many mental mistakes on defense that we just can't afford to have. On the bright side this helps my case in what I've been saying to the team the last 3 weeks after a win... Don't relax. Don't ever play like you've already won, because that's when you are going to get beat. And this week, our defense beat themselves.

Offense:
Over 300 yards passing.

One interception, no touchdowns. 300 yards doesn't sound so good anymore does it? LT had a hair more than 50 yards rushing. It seems I didn't make myself clear this week to the O-line that I wanted some more pass defense for our QB's. Well they did that, but I didn't mean stop run blocking in doing so.

But long story short... Our offense on the passing side made some really big plays, that never amounted to anything more than a field goal. The run game never did it's job of wearing down the defense. Instead it worked in reverse.

Defense:

We got ran on. Defense got it in their head somewhere along the way that teams just couldn't. I'd like to thank the Giants organization for slapping them for me. Perhaps now they'll get back to the grinding stone during the game and not just during practice.

We pretty much shut down the recievers we thought we had to shut down. Murphy and Shocky. Then Toomer shows he's still got gas in the gas tank. Ugly showing for our D-line... We need more pressure than what we got that game, got to help those corners out.

Special Teams:
We got a great punt inside the 10, and we didn't fumble the ball on returns... And Keading went 3 for 4, missing the first 48 yard attept.

This was a wake up week, and I for one am looking forward to practice to see how the players handle this loss......

Questions?

Obviously your passing game couldn't produce in the absence of a running game. Are you worried that teams might see now that all they have to do is focus on stopping LT and force you to pass?

I'm very impressed with the performance of Reggie Harrell not only today but all season, he catches alot of balls on a consistent basis. For a 5th rounder he may have been the steal of the 2005 draft, How do you feel about Harrell Tigam?

Any concerns about allowing a 22 year old rookie RB to gain 150 yards on your D?

In the limited time we say Rivers at QB today he was efficient. Any chance we might see him get more playing time or will Garcia continue to take the majority of the snaps?

Can we expect any changes on the D-line to generate more pressure?

in an earlier press conference you said that you had to run the ball well for your defense to be as good as it was, today you didnt, is that the reason for your loss?

Not at all. Garcia has shown in the past, and even in this game, he doesn't need a run game to be effective. We just had some really bad breaks in the endzone, and one mental mistake throwing into double coverage.

Our passing game was fine, it was the in redzone that we had problems. Take away that INT in the Endzone and add a TD, and we have a game.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda... But didn't happen that way.

I think he's still a rookie, but he's putting out like a veteran on most plays. But you can still see the rookie in there on some plays.

He's likely the best pick we had in the draft. Lineman mature slower, so it's hard to tell right now. But we are *very* happy with Harrell to date.

I'd be concerned no matter who the RB is. With that said, we will try to make adjustments but still keep in mind the QB we are playing. I'm actually happy we have both Manning's behind us now, and hope to see them again this year.

Absolutely. They are fighting for the position, make no mistake about that. Should Garcia slip up in a game, or games, you'll see Rivers more and more to see how much he wants the spot.

9 for 12 for 75+ yards isn't a bad start.

Not at this time, just more drills and alot of yelling. Should Peterson continue to blitz like he has been we might try to fully utilize him more in the passing game.

It's one of the several. The longer we keep the opposing offense off the field the happier I am. But to truly be effective, we have to come away with points on offense, even if it is a FG. This week we didn't, we went from ball control to playing catch up.

I don't ever want to play catch up in a game.
