The Titans press conference...a look back and a look forward.
Owner:
As the new owner of the titans i personally have made no changes to the team sheet, this is for two reasons:
firstly, i felt that the FAs were ridiculuosly overpaid for what i we as a team would have benefitted from. Our concern was the loss of Jevon Kearse, replacing him with brackens was the aim. however the price was similar for him, as we would have paid to keep kearse on.
secondly, this was like a second off season for me as an owner. because prior to my take over, all the off season moves were made, and i felt it unecessary to make anymore, except said FA.
any anxieties?
two. i beleive that having to start rookie Travis LaBoy at LE is not what the team needs. however we were not prepared to pay that amount for brackens.
secondly, looking far into the future. We are at the end of contract for several players, and we must retain them, that is a must. it sems likely we may have to franchise tag one person.
prospects?
lots. we are very very much in the hunt for the super bowl this year. our starting line up is virtually without flaw. our depth in most places is good, especially the DBs and WRs, we are in good contention.
i feel that chris brown should be headed for a breakout year, and steve mcnair will return to mvp form. The fans expect a super bowl. I expect a super bowl. The Titans expect a superbowl!
as a final pointer, to anyone who says that this is a rebuilding year for the titans, and that they are out of the hunt. i laugh. we are just looking forward to the season.
Coach:
our focus this year is the superbowl, it always has been and always will be.
we have worked all training camp to improve fitness and fill holes left from depatures to free agency. we feel confident this has been achieved. the are which we are most confident in is our secondary. they are all full strength, full fitness, and just wanna start hitting somebody.
open to any questions.

Coach, are you concerned at all about your lack of depth on the offensive line?
It appears that if you were to have an injury at any of the positions on the line you dont have anyone prepared to step up. If you compound that with an injury to McNair it almost surely would be devistating to your season.

yes you make a very good point. we are aware of this. we feel that our guys are deoendable, as zach piller has yet to miss a game, we are aware of the problem, however, we have looked over our sheet and we feel that jason matthews can step up at the tackle positon ,and like wise for jacob bell at the guard. if we were to incur more than two injuries to the O-line then we would have to seriously consider bringing in a FA. the point is valid and we are aware that it is our hole in depth, we just cant afford to keep better depth right now.
and to answer the point about steve mcnair. yes we would be in trouble. however we feel that billy volek is the best back up we can have with the money we have. and are confident he could pull through should the situation arise. however, not many teams could account for a back up loss...could you imagine the colts without manning, or the packers without favre?

I just wanted to make a short comment: For me the Titans are among the top SB favourites. If QB McNair stays healthy they are very, very hard to beat…

Tenn Owner, someone stated earlier that Tennessee are super bowl favorites. How do you feel about that, having to play the Colts twice this year?

in amswer to G65.
the fact is there is no replacement for eddie george. there just isnt. we have to accept that he was one of a kind. i have the utmost respect for him. he pounded up the hut every time he was called upon to do so. he never missed a game. that is something that is virtually unparalleled. he was a great locker room presence, and the fact is, we are going to miss him. however, there may be no replacment but there is as close as in chris brown, he could very well be statistically better than eddie this season, than eddie was last season. we are just going to need vets in the form of derrick mason and brad hopkins to step up in the locker room, moreso than they already do.
in reply to swoosh.
yeah, i think they are right, and in actual fact, i wouldnt be surprised to see the eagles there with us, we are very much in contention. that is our goal. we dont feel great about playing the colts twice this year, not at all. peyton is a man on fire. but we know, that we have the pottential to beat them, especially at home.

Do you feel that the Lack of NFL Icons will make you have to overpay for certain FA's.
You said you had a bunch of guys entering the final year of their contract, but you can only tag one. What about the rest? Any plans to move them before week 6?

i may...that is move them before week 6...but it is not a neccesity.
i understand what you are saying but personally, i am confident with the nfl icons such as steve mcnair keith bulluck and up and coming chris brown, along with other greats in our DB corps, and derrick mason, and LT brad hopkins. i feel with have a solid pool of players.

i am unbeleivably disappointed. its untrue. we have lost all three by a TD or less. two of which were won by the other team with defensive tds..the third was a fumble on a comeback drive. im struggling to come to terms with where we go...but one thing is for sure, this team is going somewhere, it is not going backwards...next week is a do or die situation for us...
as a team we refuse to become disheartened though, we will continue to fight every game, thats for sure. and we will win next week.

Any changes you need to make to your roster? Perhaps letting a younger guy play? Or do you just go back and try to motivate them more?

slick i appreciate the questions man...thanks well, i really cant see anyone who isnt turning up in the games...steve is throwingf 1 too many picks but its just a little dip in performance...the roster is not going to change, unless a. someone begins to take their job for granted and isnt performing...or b. a youngster is ready to step up...but right now, i think i have the best team with the players available on the roster set right now.
