Cowboys coach Bill Parcells joked this off-season that with older players such as safety Darren Woodson, you just never know when they will get hurt and be unable to play.
Nobody is laughing at Valley Ranch nowadays.
Two sources confirmed that Woodson is likely to miss training camp and might be in danger of missing part of the season after rupturing a disk in his back while doing off-season workouts. Sources said the Cowboys and Woodson are discussing whether surgery is necessary, which it probably is, with a final decision possibly coming today.
If Woodson has surgery, he is likely to miss six to eight weeks, which means he might not be available for at least the first two games of the season. If Woodson opts to try rehab, keeping surgery as a last resort, he is likely to remain in Dallas when the Cowboys leave for training camp in Oxnard, Calif., on Thursday.
Neither Parcells nor Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was available for comment Thursday.
Calls to Woodson's home Thursday were not returned.
Even before the injury, however, the 35-year-old Woodson acknowledged that 2004 could very well be his final season.
"I'm a realist about it. There is talk. This could be my last year," Woodson told the Star-Telegram in May.
And, if the back injury turns out to be more serious than thought, there is a chance his final season could end without his playing a single game.
Losing Woodson for even a short period of time would be a huge blow to the Cowboys. Not only is Woodson a key cog in the Cowboys' highly rated secondary, but he is a vocal leader and the heart and soul of the team. He has been with the Cowboys since being drafted by them in 1992 and, along with offensive lineman Larry Allen, is one of their last links to the Super Bowl titles of the 1990s. He is the franchise's all-time leading tackler. He has been a mentor to young secondary members such as Roy Williams, Terence Newman and Pete Hunter.
Woodson is backed up by Tony Dixon, who was a key contributor on special teams last season.
Bryant seeks meeting
Nearly six weeks after throwing a jersey in the face of Bill Parcells during a heated argument at a minicamp practice, wide receiver Antonio Bryant is prepared to apologize.
Bryant's agent, Lamont Smith, said Thursday that Bryant is scheduled to talk to Parcells sometime in the next "4-5 days" and is willing to do what is necessary to be a part of the team when the Cowboys begin training camp next week.
"I've had a number of conversations with Bill, Stephen [Jones] and Jerry [Jones], and if [Bryant] comes in ready to play football, they are ready to put this thing behind them," Smith said. "And Antonio is definitely ready to do that. ... He realizes he made a mistake, and I think he's prepared to come in and fix it."
Bryant has not spoken to Parcells or been to Valley Ranch since the incident, which stemmed from Bryant's frustration over practice reps and ended with Bryant being escorted from the field by security.
Neither Parcells nor Jerry Jones has commented on the Bryant situation, and they declined, through spokesman Rich Dalrymple, to do so Thursday.
Smith said Bryant has been working out on his own and, if he returns to the Cowboys, he will be in condition when training camp begins.
Hutchinson update
The end of the Chad Hutchinson experiment appears to be at hand. The Cowboys might cut the quarterback today.
The Cowboys are not likely to go into training camp with five quarterbacks, and there is very little interest from other teams in trading for Hutchinson.
Hutchinson started eight games for the Cowboys in 2002 but lost his starting job to Quincy Carter in training camp last season. The signing of Vinny Testaverde, the trade for Drew Henson and the rise of Tony Romo makes Hutchinson, who had a so-so performance in NFL Europe, expendable.

First off, an opinion cannot be wrong....its an OPINION
Ok, good. In my opinion, you're an idiot. Good thing I can't be wrong!
Timothy 2:12
the last cowboys game .. OMG! did you see how good the cowboys did ... they did awesome I just wish they didnt make it such a close game... I think they just needed to get used to the new qb and everything well they got used to the old qb ... but he is doin good .. I think they will have a good season as long as venny gets comfertable
Cowboys are supposed to be Americas team at least when the one the last SB. But are they,Maybe Maybe Not. I guess it's everybodies judgement to this team has been this that and other things. But when it comes to tradition well when the Cowboys and Redskins meet you could be the biggest bears , oackers and so on fan, but whe these to paticular teams everybody want's to see this game. in 1938 they stopped matchinh the 2 teams but I beleive it was brought back in 1943 don't quote me on that. Parcells is a great coach he knows how to ru a team look what he did for the giants. I don't know Parcells was HC last year Cash you will have to let me know. But now Dallas has a pretty good team they got Bryant they were stupid to get rid of Galloway. Parcells has changed that team. I personally like it when Jimmy Johnson was HC. I guess will see how they do. The Eagles well they look good and McNabb is strong but if they get to playoffs like they have for the last 3 years I think they might go to the SB. It all depends on Mcnabb.
i personally feel that the D is the key for the cowboys, they arent playing aswell as we all know that they can...if they do then they will be a serious force

The Cowboys are Americas team. Not supposed to be, they are. It doesnt matter if you love them or hate them. They are the only team that people either love or hate and no one is in between. They are also the only team that has a Big Blue Star. What else says american. Hell go look at the Texans. Its obvious they tried to do all they could to "One Up" the Cowboys with thier emblem. It just the same as the Rock is "the peoples champ". Thats that wether you hate em or love em.

Yes Parcells first year with Cowboys was last year and he took the team from 5-11 to 10-6 and playoffs in his first year.

What the hell have you been smoking dude. You tell me what Galloway did for the Cowboys besides cost them 2 FIRST ROUND PICKS. He never did a damn thing the whole time he was with the Cowboys and half the time he was hurt. The boys didnt "Get rid" of Galloway, they traded him for K. Johnson. So you go look at the stats after these first 2 games and tell me who is better. KJ or Galloway. Oh, wait...... Damn Galloway is hurt again... out for at least 4 weeks. Oh maybe he will catch back up to Johnson since he is so damn good when he comes back. I cant beleive you wrote this today. Dude there is stats look at them before you make a rediculous statement.

Johnson was good when he coached the Boys and I wont dog him for what he did for the boys. But he couldnt do it again when he coached the Fins. Parcells has shown what he can do with 4 different teams now. Parcells definatly wins this comparison.

Eagles.... Bills...... Eagles........ Bills........ Eagles 3 straight losses in NFC championship game......... Bills 4 straight losses in Superbowl....... at least the Bills could make it to the big one before they lost... Eagles will choke once again if the make it to the Championship game this year.

I agree titans. But I don't see the spark that Dallas. Quincy Carter may be their key player. But what's it going to take for Parcells to get them to the SB. I will tell you this. Antonio Bryant is the Cowboy's oyher key player. I will tell you who I thinl will go to PO and SB. The Redskins have the #1 D in the NFL. But 7 turnovers is ridiculous. I think they will be a wild card team/ The Eagles well if McNabb can get to Divisional Title they will go and win but not this year. the Redskins game this week will tell us what to look forward to. I hope it is a good game but then again with ramsey QB I hope he can throw a reception. We will see.
Quincy Carter may be their key player....... I will tell you this. Antonio Bryant is the Cowboy's oyher key player....... The Redskins have the #1 D in the NFL.
CHEESE AND RICE..... If Q Car is the Cowboys key player we are in BIG trouble concidering he is the BACK UP QB FOR THE JETS. That dope smoking idiot isnt a key player for anyone except maybe the team he is playing AGAINST if Penington goes down. Come on dude wake up and watch so pregame shows or something....
And Bryant.... Um well.... he is doing better this year at not dropping the freaking ball but if he gets hurt then thats just more passes from VINNY to Johnson, Glenn, or Whitten. Look at the stats again dude.
Hmmm Skins have #1 D after 2 whole games.... and one of those against the Giants.... Man they are good..... Just think after 2 games the Cowboys have the #1 offense..... #1 D vs. #1 O..... what a match up..... Come on you cant look at that crap after 2 games, get back with me after week 5 or 6.......The boys have poor Defensive stats after 2 games but I'm not worried, its only been two weeks and one of those weeks was against the Vikings where Roy spent all day following Moss instead of up near the line where he belongs.....I'll get back with you after week 5 or 6 with a status on my Boys D.

You will have to excuse me cash but I don't pay attention to the Cowboys that much. If I were to pay attention to the Boys Maybe I would of known QC was gone. Chaos let talk about Johnson apparently the Bucs did not want ot dish out the money Johnson wanted so he went commintating for the rest of last year. Am I putting down Johnson, hell no bucs should have kept him he is a great receiver, he is the quickest post receiver I've seen in a long time. As for Glenn he was playing with the Packers when Sterling Sharp was playing which if he was still playing would probably be the most sought after WR their but since he injured his neck he did the smart thing and retired before he became paralyzed. Glenn will be around for maybe 5 years more if that. Well as for Galloway did not know he was that bad the only time I seen him play was when he layed with Dallas and he was not hurt. McNabb may have to give up because he apparently has caught I can't get past Divisional Championship Virus. Every year they go and every year some how Mcnabb screws things up. The Cowboys, I'm not sure why your ragging on Bryant he is young and he has great hands. The other other thing why in the hell have they not retired Drew Pearson Jersey. I'm not trying to argue with you Chaos it's just that I'm not a Cowboys fan. Oh! Chaos or Cash has thier been anybody on the Cowboys wearing a #80 jersey let me know. I will keep an eye on Dallas but not much.
I mean evrybody going to watching this one. The 3rd highest winning % coach in the NFL with the #1 D in the NFL. Thanks for the heads up on Galloway I did not know he got injured so much, but you have to admit he was quick. Oh yeah one more thing the Cowboys got Testaverde. Man I thought he retired. Anyway thanks for thanks again for the info Chaos.
I dislike McNabb think he's overrated. I would like to see the Redskins and Cowboys both make the playoffs but with the Eagles it may not be possible so I am praying McNabb gets hurt ... j/k
You got to admit tho Cowboys got torched vs Minnesota and it wasn't pretty. I mean even with all the losses Philly had they did play better than the Boys, but in the End I see boys winding up with a top 3 D in the league and their O dropping to the mid section where it belongs same goes for the Redskins D who rated like 5-8 spots too high.

Had nothing to do with money gues you don't pay attention to the bucs either..
Quote:

Nobody is ragging on bryant.. he has great potential but he undesciplined, on and off the field, he cuts off his routes, and throws jerseys at bill parcels. Until he gets mre discipline he will never be a MAIN receiver for a Bill Parcels run team.
Quote:
The other other thing why in the hell have they not retired Drew Pearson Jersey.
The cowboys don't retire jerseys.. If they did there would be no numbers available. You think Drew pearson is the single greatest player to ever play for the cowboys and his is the only jersey that deserves to be retired?
I think michael Irvin did good with #88 and Bryant just might also.. we can hope..
And last.. nobody wears 80 right now, but... I know just off the top of my head.. Alvin Harper wore #80..
You got to admit tho Cowboys got torched vs Minnesota and it wasn't pretty. Ok my team lost fair and square so I'm not making excuses... but..
You say the cowboys got torched in the game against the vikings and that philly did much better.
The truth is that the cowboys vikings game was a LOT closer than the score looked. The cowboys shot themselves in the foot that game with 2 personal fouls in the redzone, a fumble on the 17 yard line, and a botched hold on a fg attempt.
Vikings Boys game??
Cowboys Total yards 423 Vikings total Yards 415
The vikings werw at home and teams often self destruct on the road...
Now lets move on to the vikings eagles game
The vikings killed themselves in this game just as the boys did against the vikings. 11 point game here. Culpepper fumbles on the 1 inch line taking away 7 points, and Owens gets a ball bouncing off the ground 50 yard TD. Now the eagles might have won anyway without those mistakes, just as the cikings might have beat the cowboys without the mistakes the boys made. But this was not one team dominating another team (as was not the boys vikings game)
More evidence?
Vikings total yards 410 Eagles Total yards 317
Now turnovers lose you games, but turnovers and penalty type mistakes can be corrected.
All I am saying is that these games were much closer than the score indicates, I watched both of them.
Oh and BTW the vikings were on the road in that philly game.. it was thier first road game of the season.. if people don't think homefiled advantage matters... then they don't know football.

i would say in both the games mentioned the score could have gone either way, and like you say, there are some games that are not fairly reflected by scorelines, those 2 come to mind, as does the titans colts game, the titans gave the colts a scare, but that was not reflected on the scoreline...however in the titans colts game, we killed ourselves by getting sloppy and missing tackles, but in the other 2 it was turnovers and penalties, and they can be avoided...avoiding those is what separates good teams, from great teams...they are simple to avoid, and that is something the vikings and cowboys will spend a lot of time on over the next few weeks...incidentally id say that both the vikes and boys are better than the eagles, and would love to have seen them win those games...oh and on the homefield advantage thing, that makes a huge difference...seattle, st louis, denver..they arent the same on the road...

I happened to watch all of the MNF game and don't believe that the Eagles-Vikings game was tht close. I think despite the yeards they put up the Vikings played horrible. The never got the ball to Randy. They could of thrown it up to him and made him go up for it like he does best especially on the new Philly CB, but didn't. Turnovers did kill them but they played lousy, especially on D in my opinion. I just didn't believe that the Vikings could pull it out at any part despite the fact that I was rooting for him
Can't say anything about the Viking Cowboy game since I didn't watch but I will go and read reports now

For the Eagles I would not blame it all on McNabb, just most of it J/K. I think when the Eagles get to the playoffs McNabb feels pressure and pushes to fast and that's probably why they lose. During the regular season, for example MNF game McNabb was poised and confident, the O Line kept himpretty protected and he had time to what he does best. He can also run but he is alittle slower though. I told Cash this and don't know if I old anyother member. The first time the Cowboys went to the SB was I beleive SBVI, but to get to the SB they had to win the divsional title and the team they played and not bad but did was the Redskins. Which is ironic to say the least. As far as the Redskins D is concerned they maybe alittle overrated but not much the D shut down TB if anything they should be in the Top 5. For the Cowboys well this rivalry goes to far back. Even though I'm a big Redskins fan I'm going with the Cowboys. Even though Testaverde is playing Cowboys have a strong O line. But for intense and purposes lets hope it's good game.
And last.. nobody wears 80 right now, but... I know just off the top of my head.. Alvin Harper wore #80..
I think Tampa Bay outta retire #80 as well just because!!!!!
yeah Dallas retire jerseys....oh lord, here's a list I know that will be taken....
8(troy aikmen)
22(Emmitt, which I think they outta, if not for the SB's, then for the rushing record)
88(Michael Irvin)
11(Danny White)
12(Roger Staubach)
72(ed too tall jones)
48(Moose)
80(Alvin Harper)
33(tony dorsett)
34(hershel Walker)
21(deion......please forgive me)
Randy White(can't remember his number)
no cash just said that they DO NOT retire jerseys, if they did, then why is bryant playing in 88?

Randy White(can't remember his number)
ok, I am at a dead end
Cliff Harris...Charlie Waters (goes to my church )...Bob hayes Don Meridith...Jay Novacheck
Jay Novacheck, forgot about him....oh yeah....#84.....I remember when I was 9 ro 10....that would mean 85 or 86...I had a Danny White uniform with the 2 bar face mask...that was so funny that I look back on that now....some 18, 19 years later!!!
What do u mean that Donny plays different in the playoffs. 3 NFC championship games in a row, in how mjany years in the league. He's still maturing. He's still young. Plus his wideouts droped al kinds of balls in last years game. The first one he lost was to the eventual SB champs.(The high powered O of the Rams) That game was more his D's fault then his. U can't blame Donny McNabb for that. The secound one was TB again eventual SB champs, who we could probaly say was one of the best D's in history.
Hey cash if I'm correct Randy Whites jersey was # 55. Man how could I forget Ed too tall Jones. After football he started boxing I do not know what was going through his head at the time, maybe you could answer that cash because I don't know why. Johnston absolutely Staubaugh, D White, Dorsett what about Lee Roy Jordan he was a great D-Linesman. I think Tony Hill should be retired to but thats my opinion. Golden Richards naaaaaah. Pearson and Hill were tip toe boys they could tip the out of bounds line without going out of bounds not to many WR can do that now. Here are some others that should be retired but thier not Cowboys. Marino, Swann, Stahlworth, I don't know if Griese is going to be retired. I don't even have to bring up Smith. We know Bradshaw will if not already. Alot of back and now are all purpose players which is good for a team because you van put them anywhere and they can play the position. Anyway their are to many toname that should be retired but I could be wrong about Randy Whites # Cash but I think it was 55.
I know Randy White was not 55......more like 77 or 76 if anything...but not 55.....marino, swann, stahlworth....they should not be mentioned here...this is COWBOYS........not dolphins, chargers or steelers.............also you know why players won't tip toe now? that's cause they don't get paid to do it..it's not in the contract!!!!!
ok...nmaybe I'm wrong now that I think about it...#55....still not sure it was that though....
