Wanted to know who everyone thinks will be the most impact player from this years Rookie Draft and Why. Please dont just post a name.... I'm going to evaluate my opinions concerning the top 10 draft picks and chose the one who I think should do the most damage (YOUR CHOICE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A TOP 10 PICK, BUT PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY)
(1) QB ELI MANNING
Despite being well deserving of the honor of being picked 1st, I don't think Eli will make the biggest impact by far. I only know a handful of QB's who were successful in their rookie year. Dan Marino was one.... that takes a very special QB. I think he needs a year or two to be groomed like Donovan McNabb and Vick were. With the pressures of NYC and a very demanding head coach I think "his confidence will take bruising" (ESPN Nolan Nowrocki) if he's just thrown out there. Personally I think it will take more than the 2 years it took his older brother Peyton to adapt. Having a veteran starter like Kurt or Gannon (if cut) in NY would be a great help.
(2) OT ROBERT GALLERY
Gallery will take on a very tough and demanding position as he has been given the nod to start at OLT. The only problem with Gallery is that they have asked him to change his technique and that can make his rookie year abit tougher if he doesn't adjust in time. Personally I think he'll be one of the best rookies of this draft and only rate him behind one (You'll see who soon enough.
(3) WR LARRY FITZGERALD
Larry is a big, strong, physical reciever who has not only great hands, but great body control and concentration to make the difficult catches. Fortunately for him Dennis Green's vertical attack will allow him to suceed as a rookie much like partner WR Boldin did last year. He will benefit from some of the extra attention Boldin gets on D, but I think he might struggle with getting seperation from DB his rookie season
(4) QB PHILIP RIVERS
Of all the rookie quarterbacks drafted this year, Philip Rivers will probably have the quickest learning curve. He will be thrown right in the line of fire from Day one and he has shown that he has the ability to lead. Unfortunately for him other than LaDain Tomilson there is no other bright spot on that team and after trading WR David Boston to Miami, his WR corps is a bit depleted. That along with a below average O-Line = a long season for Philips.
(5) FS SEAN TAYLOR
The last time the Redskins took a defensive back in the first round it was in 1999 and CB Champ Bailey came off the board with the 7th overall pick. Champ quickly became an impact player and a shutdown corner. Washington hopes that Taylor can do the same. Taylor's combination of size, speed, and power will make him an immediate impact player. The league hasn't seen a FS of this caliber since Steve AtWater played and Taylor is said to be better in coverage or like one ESPN writer said "more naturale". Personally I think he's the best player in the draft.
This is why I am picking Sean Taylor as the most impact rookie of his draft. I voting for him to become 2005 ROY
(6) TE KELLEN WINSLOW
Winslow possess all the tools needed to be a succesful TE in the league today. With his former TE Coach from Miami, Rob Chudzinksi taking over the same position in Cleveland his "transition time will be expedited". Winslow is sure to become the focal point of the Cleveland Browns offense and can take the league by storm just like Shockey did two years ago in NY. With the acquisition of Garcia look for him to get alot of looks. Unfortunately their team still needs to address its HB position and unless their D gets better (remember Lewis ran for 295 yards against them) then i don't see their offense getting a chance to be on the field too much.
(7) WR ROY WILLIAMS
Roy Williams is considered to be the best WR in the draft. I rate him behind Larry though. Surely enough he is the fastest. Coupled with the fact that Detroit drafted WR Charles Rogers last year and that means that they should have one of the most explosive tandems for years to come. Unfortunately for Williams for him to become an impact player, fellow QB Joey Harrington has to step it up.... He has been very disappointing and has yet to live upto expectations. They also lack a running game so teams can play more coverage or double if needed.
(8) CB D'ANGELO HALL
Hall is going to take over the starting Left CB position for the Falcons. He is a tough in your face CB who won't back down from anyone. In a time where the league plans to crack down on illegal contact by DB's his speed will become his greatest asset. Personally I have faith in Hall and expect him to perform week in and week out.
(9) WR REGGIE WILLIAMS
Despite coming off the board abit early, Reggie is still a top rated WR. His senior year was abit slow but that was more so the fault of his team's stagnant offense than his own. He will become a focal point of the offense becoming one of Bryon Leftwich's primary targets. If Bryon can progress and improve upon last year then Reggie will have many good seasons to come. Only downfall is that Jacksonville currenty plays in a very tough division and will have some stiff competition and since Bryon Leftwich is still learning he may not get all the catches he should get.
(10) CB DUNTA ROBINSON
Robinson is a great upgrade at the secondary and allows Marcus Coleman to move back to the S position. He has good closing speed and excelent positioning ability, but unfortuantely lacks ball skills. He will have to work on that before he can do what Coleman (7 INT) did last year and lead the team in INT's.

I guess I'll just comment randomly.. with the disclaimer that all I know about these guys is their draft reports, havent played NCAA, havent seen em play.
Larry Fitz - Using the holly Bible that is madden, I have to say for a receiver to be great he needs a good QB and for a QB to be great he needs at least one very decent wide receiver. Case in point - Byron Leftwich struggling when Jimmy Smith was traded away and Reggie Williams was injured, thank god for Fred Taylor (in my franchise, of course ). So I expect he'll be great, just dont see a huge season ahead of him with Boldin taking probably more receptions and a barely servicably QB.
Ok, so Domanick Davis isnt gonna happen two years in a row, but hey Tatum Bell is at Denver, and we know what happens in Denver
Not really looking at immediate impact, I think the best overall player is probably gonna prove to be Taylor, Gallery or Winslow. Even though all three could have explosive first seasons.. well maybe not Gallery, unless he starts flattening Simeon Rice and the like He'll just be a big solid treetrunk on the left side that defensive ends will need to take a taxi to get around. Hehe, best thing he can do is make his weakside position sound ironic.
I just feel the need to tack on another question though, who do you guys feel was the best value/biggest steal pick in the first or second rounds? Things that come to my mind are the Steelers getting Big Ben aaaall the way at 11, Wilfork going to the Pats, Troupe to Titans, Colbert to Panthers and perphaps, Teddy Lehman to the Lions..
I agree with Ben falling to 11 only to a point.... If you look at the teams who were desperately in need of Qb's then Ben * 11 was no surprise.... I think that Wilfork falling all the way down to the 20's and going to NE was abit of a steal.... But honestly the biggest steal of the 1st two rounds was .....
STEVEN JACKSON at #24 to the Rams... I mean here is a guy Mel Kipler rated as one of the ten best players in the draft. A guy who was considered by far the best RB in the draft and yet he was passed up a couple of times.... I think the rams got a big steal with that pick and thier future RB after Marshall..... good job Rams

Sorry to break it to you Cash, but despite the Cowboys need for a RB meaning that Julius Jones will get to start and alot of carries, I still think that Sean Taylor will be ROY , but if i had to divide between OFF and DEF Rookie of the year then i would go Taylor and Julius Jones / Winslow

Sorry inside joke.... Ok we used to play Notre Dame because they are my favorite college team (yes I'm a college bandwagoner... I like Notre Dame cause I'm 1/2 Irish but I like other teams too I have no favorite) Anyway they had of course Julius Jones... My brother called him "basketball Jones"...
If you don't knwo what that means... Well I played basketball basically my whole life.. I love playing it.... "Jones" means addiction.... see these....
Now some people can use basketball Jones as an insult... or derogatory name, but in no way was it meant like that...
So anyway.. if you've never heard the term basketball jones it makes no sense... but for us it is just a nickname.. of course last year we wanted to draft "mini" Vick so we played VT.. they of course had Kevin Jones.. So of course there where then 2 Basketball Jones' but the originall Basketball Jones is Julius Jones.... so now you know the story...
