it was kinda predicted but here it is collins heads to the raider nation...from nfl.com and raiders.com
Quote:
The Oakland Raiders have added veteran free agent quarterback Kerry Collins. The 31-year old Collins has been a starter in the Super Bowl, in two NFC Championship games and played in a Pro Bowl. Collins has played in 123 NFL contests with 117 starts since originally entering the NFL as a first round draft choice by the Carolina Panthers in 1995. "We're pleased and excited to have Kerry join the Raiders," said Raiders Head Coach Norv Turner. "Kerry is a highly productive performer who will add to what is already a talented position."
are they kicking gannon?...they should in my opinion.
Gannon still could be gone June 1... They may bring in Kerry Collins... But Someone had to give hambrick a job doesn't surprise me that its the raiders.. you may be pleasantly surprised.. If they use him right and he gets 5-6 carries a game he can be productive.. if the make him the starter though.. thats plain dumb
I hear Eli Manning is looking pretty pathetic in mini-camp drills. Its early, sure. But wouldn't be funny if the Giants realize they may need a veteran and they sign Gannon?

but if Eli Manning usurps Collins, then Collins usurps Gannon and then Gannon usurps Manning... well... that would be cool, ya know.
Wee, Usurper Nation!
I can definitely envisage the above happening. But to be honest football has way too long an offseason. The fact practices (in May as well) are attended and reported on by journalists just illustrates this. Time for a 20-game season, nice round number - course then all season records go out the door.
Whats been going on with the Raiders though? Did they only have half a team last year? They're signing so many players, you'd think their sallary cap is $200m. Their setup now might be decent for a season or two, but I think the 49ers are going the better route by, uh, not having an average starter age of 35.
Unfortunately the Raiders are using the win now deal with later, well ... later technique..... They are not rebuilding so have all young starters is not in their benefit.... In that case they are making some decent moves but i don't know how far they'll make it...
As for the 49ers... well they are going to be out of contention for awhile.... I mean losing Garcia was okay with Rattay showing he can play but taking away his primary target.... that wasn't as smart.... expect it to take them awhile to rebuild

Don't underestimate Brandon Lloyd though, I remember watching him play last year and he did pretty well. I'm not saying he's as good as TO, but he's good.

Bottom Line 49ers take a few seasons to properly rebuild.... Don't see them being to competitive for the time being especially with some very tough teams in the NFC right now.
