Merriman will forgo surgery, play with knee injury

Chargers Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman will forgo knee surgery and play this season for the San Diego Chargers despite the fact he has two torn ligaments in his left knee.

Man I'm sure he would be bummed if he got hurt in the first game of the year and then had to get the surgery, I would imagine he would have to sit out the year with this surgery.

I think this is a horrible decision!!! This is going to be one example of pride being the decline of someone. The Chargers need to start to think about what linebacker they will take in the upcoming draft because I doubt if Merriman will last even to the half way mark of the season. Also with such an injury, how will this affect his agressivness and his effectivness like he has been in the past?

Pretty foolish decision, I read somewhere if he played on it it was career threatening. Have the surgery, accept your fate. Gotta love a guy who has such pride and self belief, but its not a sensible call.
