From all the reports on this situation that I have seen, it seems that he has had this problem going back to last season. At the halftime show last night on MNF, they were talking about it and they were puzzled on why he hadnt said anything about it til now?? Might be the best thing to get the surgery done now, rather than risk and complete blowout, but I guess that is what the doctors opinion is for.
Shawne Merriman is probably the player I hate the most in the current NFL. I would never root for a player to get hurt, but I can't say I feel bad for the guy. And if he's not going to have the surgery, he's just an idiot who deserves what happens to him.

I'm sure he loves to play the game, if thats so maybe he should get the surgery and be able to extend his career instead of hurting his chances of ever playing again.
I know that it is his body and all, but I would think that the Charger front office has a big say in this, after all, he is a huge investment for the club. I hope he does the smart thing and gets this surgery done. I am with you IS, I dont like Merriman either, but I would like to see him still be able to play next year.
