Report: Giants agree to trade Shockey to Saints

The Giants agreed to trade Jeremy Shockey to the Saints for second- and fifth-round draft picks, according to a report on FOXSports.com. The deal is pending league approval, and Shockey must also pass a physical.

Shockey should be able to help out the offense a lot, and free up some room for Colston to work. As long as the Saints dont start out like they did last year they could be a pretty tough team to deal with this year, even if they only play ok d.

I like this trade for both teams: I agree with Steelersfan that it opens up the possibilities of that New Orleans offense more and takes some of the heat off Colston in the passing game, and it gives the Giants a chance to inject the roster with some more youth.

That said, I'm not quite seeing all the hype for the Saints this year. Their running game was positively underwhelming last year and I see no indication that it will be much better this year. McAllister is getting old and Bush is looking like somewhat of a bust so far. Their number 2 receiver looks like it'll be either David Patten or Robert Meachem, who didn't play a down in the regular season in his rookie season last year. I still think the Bucs are the team to beat in that weak division, although the Saints have definitely closed the gap.
