Falcons agree to massive deal with new QB Ryan
Matt Ryan agreed to a six-year contract that ESPN.com's John Clayton and ESPN's Chris Mortensen report that guarantees him $34.75 million and could be worth as much as $72 million.

If this is true..wow. A stupid, stupid move by the Falcons. I know they want him in camp early to try and start, but 70 million? That's more than Tony Romo and David Garrard got if I'm not mistaken. Just plain dumb.

I think Ryan's work ethic is too good to be a bust, but I don't know if he'll ever be a true top 5 QB.

i think he will be just another average qb in the league. Everyone thought david carr was gonna help this texans, but now i dont even know where he plays anymore lol. I know that you could argue that he didnt have no O-Line to block for him and all but still lol.
If the Falcons are expecting ryan to come in this season and be a miracle worker and help bring this teams good name back and help them get a winning season, i think theyre mistaken. I do think he will be okay eventually, not amazing but okay, but its def. gonna take a couple years.....

Now if the vikings would have traded up to get him, then i would say he is the next Peyton Manning but they didnt lol....JK

thas more then Eli Manning, Tony Romo, Marc Bulger. He is prolly the 3rd highest paid QB now behind Peyton Manning and McNabb. If im not mistaking Brady only got a 60 soemthing million dllor contract also. I could be wrong now im not sure

yeah but in 2010 No cap right? They might be saving money in the long run; this depends upon what the owners decide.

Jerry Jones just tossed around quite a bit of dough... I'm thinking we might see the end of the cap by 2010...

which may last a few years. I could be seriously wrong. The NFLPA and the Owners still have 3 years to reshape a new collective bargaining agreement.


You also have to remember the Falcons have done this before. They gave Mike Vick a ton of cash. I'm not too surprised.

Roethlisberger is right up there to, either way the guy is making waaaayyyyy to much for a rookie, well actually if you think about it all of these guys are making way to much.

I actually heard on ESPN that believe it or not, he's actually making more money then Tom Brady. That is insane! Brady has several Super Bowl rings and an MVP award. Ryan has done nothing in the NFL.

They just need to guarantee rookie contracts. Make them three years long with team options to pick up a fourth year for a higher price.

I like the guarantee idea after three years the teams will know if the guy can make it in the teams system, also as for contracts go maybe the league could work out contracts based on the players position or how high they were drafted and work on that for what they will give the player for money.

his signing bonas is the 3rd highest of all time. The top 2 in fron of him are Big Ben and Micheal Vick,,,,Hes got a bigger bonas then Peyton Manning not by much but still bigger then Manning
