Deion Returning To Ravens, Or Is He- 2 Part Story
BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to terms with Deion Sanders on a one-year, $1.5 million contract, the Baltimore Sun reported Sunday night.
The deal will not be finalized until the seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback officially decides whether he will come back for a 14th NFL season. The Sun reported Sanders is expected to announce his return to the Ravens either Monday or Tuesday.
Under his agreement with the Ravens — which was structured just like his one last season — Sanders could make as much as $4 million with incentives. He would earn about $3 million if he plays an entire season as the Ravens' nickel back.
The Ravens are not expected to announce an agreement until he passes a physical. Sanders, who turns 38 in August, had minor toe surgery in the off-season.
"I feel good," Sanders told the News-Press of Fort Myers, Fla., on Friday.
Team officials had repeatedly expressed optimism since the end of last season that Sanders would return.
Considered one of most dynamic defenders in NFL history, Sanders surprisingly ended his three-year retirement by signing with the Ravens just 12 days before the last season's opener.
His comeback was limited to nine games because of toe and hamstring injuries. Still, the player known as "Prime Time" was second on the team with three interceptions, running one back against the Buffalo Bills for a touchdown.
Ravens officials said they believe Sanders could make more of an impact this season given he will participate in a minicamp as well as a full training camp, all of which he missed last season.
Sanders' Return to Ravens Delayed
OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Deion Sanders' return to the Baltimore Ravens hit a minor snag Monday when a surgeon was unavailable to complete the cornerback's physical.
The seven-time Pro Bowler is expected to learn the results of an MRI on Tuesday, according to team spokesman Chad Steele.
Sanders, who turns 38 in August, underwent minor toe surgery after playing only nine games because of toe and hamstring injuries after coming back from a three year retirement.
Sanders left the Ravens' training complex Monday afternoon without commenting.
Before undergoing his physical, Sanders confirmed in an ESPN interview that he has reached an agreement in principle with the Ravens. The one-year contract is reportedly worth $1.5 million and could be worth as much as $4 million with incentives.
Sanders finished second on the Ravens with three interceptions. Sanders is expected to split time at nickel back with Dale Carter, 35, who missed all of last season with a blood clot in his lungs.
