GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre said Sunday that next season might not be his last, and stepped up pressure on teammate Javon Walker to end his holdout.
After being serenaded by chants of "five more years" from a record crowd of 8,500 visitors to his charity softball game Sunday, Favre told reporters he hoped the family issues that made him contemplate retirement would be resolved.
"I hope off the field, within my family, that things go smoothly and I'm able to enjoy it a little bit more and my family is able to enjoy it. If that's the case, maybe I will be back," Favre said.
Favre spoke with local reporters for the first time since he announced in early March that he would be returning for a 15th NFL season.
He spoke at the sixth annual Brett Favre Celebrity Softball Game, which was held to raise money for disadvantaged or disabled children in Wisconsin and Mississippi.
Favre's wife Deanna, who recently underwent five months of chemotherapy and radiation treatments for breast cancer, said her husband could play for "a couple of more" years.
She thanked coach Mike Sherman for keeping her husband off the field for mini training camps this spring.
"Just staying away and really focusing on family and working out has really helped," she said. "He's really excited about coming back. He's more excited this year than probably the last two or three."
The three-time NFL MVP quarterback also stepped up the pressure on Walker, who has skipped both minicamps in spring and summer. The Pro Bowl receiver is demanding a new contract to replace one that has two years left on it.
Pro Bowl tight end Bubba Franks also has been a no-show because he has yet to sign a contract after being designated as the team's transition player.
"I hate to see that the game is going this way," Favre said. "I've heard a lot of comments saying, 'Well, Brett has his money and all this stuff.' Never once did I mention holdout.
"I believe, as the leader of this team, in some ways I have to be vocal. I've always been a quiet guy when it comes to things like that. But, I'm at the latter part of my career, and I want to win."
Man, that is some good news! At least we have some time to get Rogers ready to take his place. I heard he was a bit sloppy at camp, but his arm is stronger than they thought. There will be time to deconstruct his mechanics and get him into a starting mode by the time Favre retires. There will be some hugh shoes to fill!
Good news for the Packers, I hope he sticks around too! I like watching Favre's games, he is such a good QB. Hopefully he does stick around, this way it'll give Rodgers some more time to get ready and one of my favorite QB's will be around a little bit longer.
Yeah but with the loses they took on that offensive line, I hope they can patch that up for his safe. The packers need to make a bold move and get him more talent if they want another ring man, because that team has fallen short, especially on the defensive side for some time now.

Well, I think that they are pulling it together. I read an article earlier about Favre, saying that he spent some time with a personal trainer, and he has really toned up, and is expected to be more mobile next year.
With Flanagan back at center, they have Rugamer at RG and Adrian Klemm at LG. On Defense, they picked up Raynoch Thompson, which will allow them to move Diggs back to the strong side. I'm also interested in seeing if Nick Collins can bring anything to the secondary. With many new faces, and a new defensive philosophy, this could be an exciting season!
I'm glad to see Favre stay. Even though I'm not a big Packer fan, Favre is just awesome and fun to watch.
