Michigan won't settle for just any opponent when its football series with Notre Dame takes a break after the 2011 season, the school's athletic director says.
Michigan will play a national power from a major conference, most likely in a home-and-home series, athletic director Bill Martin told The Ann Arbor News for a story posted on its Web site Tuesday evening.
"There are a lot of teams Michigan would like to play and who would like to play Michigan," Martin said.
Martin declined to name names but said he's been approached by several schools.
Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White last week announced that Oklahoma would replace Michigan for two years after the current contract expires.
White said the goal is to play in different parts of the country in an attempt to return Notre Dame to its independent roots.
But the rivalry isn't going to disappear.
Martin said he and White will meet soon to continue contract talks
Interesting and something I really like. While I do enjoy the rivals like this it will be cool to see ND match up with Oklahoma.
I would love to see Michigan and Georgia do a home and home.
I think you would see more and more teams be willing to face each other if there was a playoff since as the system is now, one loss can elimnate you from the national title picture.
ND needs an easier schedule so that they can win a bunch of games against weak teams and still make the BCS games.
The NCAA obviously doesn't care that they get destroyed every year in the big bowl games.
The more cupcakes they play the more Jimmy Clausen's they attract and the easier road they have to a BCS game. By sheer odds they are bound to win one BCS game...
And by sheer odds we should've had a Triple Crown winner by now, but that hasn't happened either. Now depending on which conference Michigan goes with I could see them playing Cal/USC, Florida/Georgia, Miami/VT
My guess is that Michigan goes with the ACC or SEC. They always play a Pac-10 team every 3 years or so as is, so I would imagine they go down south.

Not to metion I believe OSU and USC (Southern California) have a series lined up in the next few years.
Well, a lot of times, a team like Michigan will risk playing a difficult opponent in order to make some huge money off it. I expect them to try and face a SEC team, just because a good SEC team against Michigan would attract a lot of attention.
I think it'd be great if they played a better known team like LSU, Georgia, or maybe Florida from the SEC. I think it would also prove (if they win) to a lot of people the Big 10 can stick with a lot of these SEC teams.
