The National Champs
So i'm surprised there isn't a thread about this already. But after watching USC flat out embarass OU last night, I don't think there is any doubt on who the best team in the nation is. I know Tommy Tiberville was in Miami last night lobbying for votes to try and get a split championship. But the fact is USC looked unstoppable. Granted Oklahomas stupid decisions which resulted in turnovers that led to TD's helped out USC but Oklahoma could not stop the deep ball. wanted to see what u guy's thoughts are.

This whole BCS things just pisses me off. Everyone last nigh, before the game, was hyping this up to be the best game in years. #1 vs. #2... This game just further proves how screwed up the BCS is. Through sophistcated formulas, detailed information and hi-tech computers, we, the fans, get this crapass game. Why, in the name of all that is holy, didn't Utah play USC and OU play Auburn with the winners of each game play one another? This would ALL be settled, with just ONE... MORE... GAME! Only one undefeated team, not THREE! Watching that game last night just made me mad.
USC looked great, unstoppable... but did they have to play Utah or Auburn? Nope. Granted, Utah may not have been much of an opponent, but Auburn would have AT LEAST played as good as OU.

Auburn woulda played better than OU by far. USC beat Va Tech by 11 in what was a very close game for most of it. Auburn let up and they scored 13. and also last night proved why jason white didn't even come close to winning the heisman for a second time. He chokes under pressure. period. If he makes a career in the NFL i'll be shocked.

The best team is supposed to get the title.. not the teams that are bad but close to the same talent

I think the best team is Aurburn. they had the hardest schedule by far. They went undefeated in the SEC. They played good teams all year(LSU,GEORGIA,TENN TWICE,). Ok so they didn't blowout VT. USC didn't blowout CAL and they also played a couple of other teams close this season. They should have to play Aurburn next week. That's the only way things like this will ever be answered. BCS sucks!!!!!

This question makes no sense..
OU isn;t the national Champion USC is..
They would be had they played Texas or Michaigan too.
It woudl be nice to have seen them play Auburn or Utah...
But had they played Auburn or Utah and beat them by 50 we would be saying they should have played OU..
Thats why College football sucks...

I don't think it's College football that sucks I think it's the powers that be. They make so much money off of these bowl games that we may never have a true #1 again. Like Cash said Playoffs would do the trick.

Any sport in which teams play a bunch of games and we never get a definitive best team.. in my opinion.. sucks.
College football sucks.. I'm not saying the gameplay sucks.. the way its played doesn't suck... watching it doesn't suck. What sucks is that the only point of it is to evaluate talent, because there are no playoffs and therefore there is never REALLY a champion.

Are you kidding? The SEC was horrible this year. I believe that Sagarin had it as the 6th best conference. Auburn was at best the 2nd best team in the country.

Let me get this right. You're saying that the SEC sucked this year. Look at the PAC-10 and tell me how many ranked teams they had in it. The SEC had Georgia, LSU, and Auburn. They were all good this year. Tennesse was good to. Tell me how that makes u suck. They played a harder schedule by far this year so they should have been at least CO-NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!!!!

The Pac-10 also sucked this year.
Who out of conference did the SEC beat? Besides the Citadel?
Your second place team lost to frickin' Notre Dame!
As for Co-National champs.. only in their minds.

I wrote this 30 Nov 04:
1. Auburn
2. USC
3. Oklahoma
4. Texas
5. Cal
6. Georgia
Here's why...Auburn plays in the SEC, maybe the toughest conference in the NCAA. They have four teams (Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and LSU) with great records (9-2 or better). They have seven of twelve teams with winning records (58%). Auburn has played three teams currently in the top 10 and won them all by a combined score of 68-25. I think that is the best resume' any team brings to the table. And they are undefeated doing it.
USC plays in a relatively weak conference, but that shouldn't be held against them (although see below). They played only two teams currently ranked in the top 20 (as opposed to three top TEN teams by Auburn). USC played both of these games at home. They won by a combined score of 68-24. The knock on them? They played only one team in the top 10 (Cal at #7). The game was at USC and they won by six points. And Cal beat them everywhere but the scoreboard in that game. I know, the scoreboard is the only things that count. But when you start picking teams apart for BSC rankings, that stuff matters.
Oklahoma plays in the Big 12, which is top heavy with them and Texas, but dwindles after that. They played only two top 20 teams (one top 10) and won by a combined 50-35. Not really that impressive. And the top 20 team they played on the road was Oklahoma State. A road game in name only. I'm just not impressed with Oklahoma all that much.
I still believe it. If one of your main knocks on Auburn is attacking Tennessee for losing to Notre Dame, you have a long way to go to make a good point.
