Of course there should. That way we can all get the benefit of not having to hear fans of teams say "We got so screwed." And none of that split championship crap either. BCS needs to be thrown out.

Yes, a playoff might be the only solution. The divison II and Divison III schools have them, so why not the big boys? If the NCAA mens and woens basketball tournament can pull students out of class for almost an entire month, the it can happen in football as well, and the absence won't be near as long.
Who voted 'No'? To me, it would be easy. Take the four major bowls (Orange, Fiesta, Sugar and Rose) and have them host the championship game every four years, much like they do now. But have the two teams that play there arrive much differently. Select 8 teams to go, seeded 1-8. Like March Madness, the pairings are favorable to the higher ranked teams (8 vs. 1, 7 vs. 2, 6 vs. 3, 5 vs. 4). Those games should be played at the higher seeded teams home field, the weekend after the last eligible team plays its last game. The next round , where there will be two games, the 'semi-finals' should take place at two of the major bowls NOT hosting the championship game. Then the final game would be played, like stated earlier, at the major bowl selected for that year. Note that one of the major bowls would not be part of the play-off each year, I would say the bowl thtat hosted the championship the year before gets removed the next year. On a side note, that bowl can host the "We should have been in the play-off" Bowl between what would essential be the #9 and #10 teams. The bowls are still intact. Money still flows. The fans are happy and at MOST a team would have to play 2 more games, the semi-final game and the championship game. Everybody wins. It makes sense. Therefor, it will never happen.
the playoff system wouldnt work financially. We have about 20 or so bowl games now. if we had 8 teams make the playoffs, that would take up 7 games. That means 14 smaller schools would miss out on the money that the bowls provide, and the nation would get tired of seeing the same teams, probably. I think the BCS is fine; however, a limited playoff would work, lets say all unbeaten teams and the top 2 in the BCS have a playoff, or something like that.
LOL Harty...Cash I do understand what your sayingand I know as a fan I ould love a small playoff sytem..but the NCAA will try to be as fair as possible..I know you'll never get any system that everyone likes but they will only change it if they feel more people will like it...which means the BCS will be around for awhile
