Wow, South Florida leapfrogs BC! Not totally unexpected, but its still weird seeing them all the way up at #2. I think Kentucky should be #5...they're a 1 loss team in the SEC with a heisman candidate at QB who just took down the best team in the country...where's the respect? Especially in the USA poll...I mean, 13? Come on now...
I can't believe South Carolina is up there and North Carolina almost upset them yesterday! WOW....I guess Steve Spurrier can only coach college kids. LOL!
I think South Florida's spot is pretty fitting. Everyone says, 'they're not as good as they seem' but I don't see how that's an argument when they're undefeated.
They've played some tough teams too. Louisville, West Virginia, Auburn. It's impossible for me to say they're not as good as people think when they consistently beat teams that are supposed to be much better than they are. Luck might be if they beat one of those teams, but to win against all three of them says something to me.
Its just because South Florida is a "name" school people aren't used to seeing so the immediate reaction is that they can't be that good.
Yeah, I agree.
I just think most people don't believe a team that isn't a power house football school can be in the top 5, much less be rated number 2 - which is the case right now.
It probably has to do with the fact that most people just can't seem to believe the South Florida would be better than the many in state colleges like Florida, Miami or Florida State. The latter two having slumped off the past year or two.
ASU-Cal will be a very interesting game next week. At what point do we have to start considering ASU as a legit contender? If they can run the table in the Pac 10, they have to be included, right? Though with Cal, Oregon, and USC still on the schedule, we probably won't have to worry about that.
Well, I think that's the hesitation with ASU. If they can get past Cal, then I suspect they could end up top 5 also.
Don't be surprised to see some like Hawaii get a shot at the Rose Bowl if they go undefeated, as opposed to one of the power house teams that have one loss.
College football is becoming so competitive at every level - it's just so difficult to go undefeated now..
The thing with ASU is that while they look great they havent played anyone. Cal should run away with this one, but it all falls on the Cal defense and if Longshore can play or not. Cal might have the best offense in the nation, but without Longshore those great WRs are much less effective.
