Just been released as a single. Its from their new album 21st Century Breakdown which came out a couple of months back and the video came out today:
If you don't know about the new album, Green Day have gone for the 'Rock Opera' style they tried with American Idiot, which was a huge success. 21st Century Breakdown follows two lovers Christian and Gloria (cousins of St. Jimmy and Whatsername from the previous album) trying to "deal with the mess our 43rd president left behind". Its split up into 3 'Acts'; Heroes and Cons, Charlatens and Saints, and Horseshoes and Handgrenades. '21 Guns' features late on in the final act.
The video is the first time we really get to see Christian and Gloria (the scene where they kiss is featured on the Album's cover). 21 Guns is one of my favourites off the album, and as soon as I heard it I thought that it was going to this album's Wake Me Up When September ends. When they announced they were going to release 21 Guns as a single, and a video, it seemed almost inveitable that it was going to be another anti-war video (the title 21 Guns is a reference to the 21-Gun Salute, and the song even includes lyrics like 21 Guns/Lay Down Your Arms/Give Up The Fight), but I was pleasently surprised to see that they strayed away from this idea, and gave the video a diffrent theme, tying in closer to the album.
The video is much better than the previous released from the 21st Century, and 21 Guns is easily one of the best songs on the album. I would also say that 21st Century Breakdown is a very good listen, it has quickly become one of my favourite albums. However this could have just been because it was the first new Green Day for 5 years
