I wanted to show you guys some real rap, i've got so many good rap examples but i couldn't pick one. So i picked one that is very different. I could have honestly picked any one of his songs and it would have been great. I think I will post some occasionally, hopefully i will get a few listens. My goal is to add one song that at least someone likes and to enlighten at least one person to artists like Chamillionaire or Lupe. I almost decided against this, but i realized your perception of rap can't get much worse. (Damn Souljah Boy)
Industry Groupie - Chamillionaire
This is probably the first song you've heard from Chamillionaire since 'Ridin'. Believe it or not he has 3+ albums and even more mixtapes. I have 70 of his songs my iPod, out of about 170. He also dominates my top 25... 17/25. Surprise surprise. Don't believe me about his talent? Check out any ratings for his albums.
Yeah... Never really been much of a rap fan. But that wasn't *horrible*

Extremists are like slinkys... Ultimately useless in the grand scheme of things... But still brings a smile to the face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
I don't know if you guys know Bun B or Pimp C but they are also solid artists. Pimp C died recently but his close friend (Bun B) is realesing his new album (II Trill) on the 20th. I think i may pick it up, sounds good from what I have heard.
Underground Thing - Bun B / Pimp C / Chamillionaire
Chamillionaire does awesome hooks IMO, i think you either like him or you don't.
You're Everything - Bun B / Rick Ross / David Banner
Actually i agree, maybe not on the greatest of all time. But i do feel Eminem is one of the strogest ones out there. Its a shame he hasnt put anything out recently. He was my favorite when he was. I hear something is in the works though. But i definatly agree with you cash on some level.
Eminem is one of the greatest...not anymore, lost whatever talent he had, but he was one of a kind...
Right now no one is touching Lupe Fiasco...he's on the way to being one of the greatest of all time. Saw him in concert yesterday, he's just amazing...
Im quite limited with what rappers I appreciate. None really in this thread. I mean, Ridin was a tune, but I would never really call it "real rap".
Personally, and maybe its just a narrow state of mind, I can only really enjoy The Beastie Boys, Immortal Technique, Nas, Common, the occasional old Wu Tang, old Outkast, and Dead Prez. I can tolerate some Ludacris cos he doesnt take himself too seriously and has come out with some tunes..But hardly "real rap".

I like almost all the rappers you mentioned. But most of the guys you mentioned are washed up: Nas, Beastie Boys, most of the Wu Tang, Big Boi.
I like eminem, I think his songs are funny. But he's definitely overrated, and now he's a little washed up (especially since Dre stopped working with him).
Whats that got to do with it? Music is music. Those are the rappers I enjoy listening to.
And having heard a live performance of The Beastie Boys not so long ago at that Live Earth, I wouldnt call them washed up. They stole the show. Not what they once were, sure, but the years they have given the industry to write them off as simply as "washed up" is verging on the disrespectful.
Now Im not sure about Nas being washed up, I havent noticed. But I dont think he can top what he has done.
But dude, I specifically said OLD Wu Tang and OLD Outkast. I know they arent what they were. So thanks for stating the obvious there.
Washed up or not, the guys I mentioned are what I would call "Real Rap" for the most part. Which is what this thread is about.

I guess Chamillionaire did something right, whichverse would that be?
Here is the verse:
From You Got Wrecked(Mike Jones Diss)
It's King Koopa..ay
I got em' scramblin', I know he feel the pressure to cheat
But I can handle him, that hoe gon' show respect to the chief
He the King of Who?, King of What?, Sesame Street
I lay you out over some beef like some sesame seeds
Meet you half-way, it's like I'm interceptin' ya beef
Await on my front-lawn, like I'm expectin' ya beef
I know that Dike Mike, wanna turn the plex into piece
But I can't (Why?), I threw away my weapon reciept
I'm bout to get him, just when he thought Koopa was in neutral
Scrap or keep it on wax, don't matter whatever suits ya
I don't know Dre, but ay I wouldn't introduce ya
I drop a beat down on ya *** like a producer
Future?, nah cuz I won't let you have next
I bet he e-mail me and try to send me internet threats
Go and pop some damn X, go and pop some Zanex
Do something better with ya life and go and have some hand sex
You ain't bringin' Cham' plex, you on a pharmaceutical
What type of fool is you? I'ma suit you for your funeral
A bunch of niggaz hit me sayin' what they wanna do to you
Don't worry, I won't let em' shoot at you, until I through with you

I liked that too. I think the song itself is pretty poor, but that verse flows well.

Hah, as you already know Tri I like rap quite a bit, especially since you got me into a lot of new other artists I'd never really listened to. Chamillionare is great, easily one of my favorite rap artists.
