Coach Schottenheimer on the Pre-Season Moves :
MS: We're gonna do what we can to get some guys in here who are gonna buckle down and play football.
Reporter: Why cut all of the youth on the O-Line.
MS: We felt that we still have plenty of youth on the O-Line in rookies Phil Bogle (RG) and Courtney Van Buren and we think these guys are not only more suited for our system, but they will give us a better chance at winning some ball games.

CHARGERS CAMP REPORT
QB :: Drew Brees struggled at first but overall had a successful camp. Coach Schotteheimer has named him starter and is hoping Brees can lead the Chargers to a positive season.
RB :: LaDainian Tomlinson played very strongly as expected in camp and shows all signs of having another great year.
WR :: One standout at Chargers camp was rookie undrafted free agent Kassim Osgood. Kassim was very enthusiastic and Coach Marty said he has a "great shot" of being a starting wideout for the Chargers.
DE :: Adrian Dingle was a standout at the Defensive End position, seemingly having improved greatly from his 2nd year in the NFL.
CB :: First Round Pick Rookie Sammy Davis out of Texas A&M had an interesting camp, struggling on his first couple days at camp but showed some improvement later in the camp. 3rd round draft choice Drayton Florence was a standout, and had coaches raving.
ST :: Wade Richey was hitting long field goals, some what inconsistant and rookie Punter Brooks Barnard was impressive in camp.

The Chargers are ready for their first preseason game which is Saturday August 9th * Seattle. I will keep ya posted.
Igor Olshansky! Best punter in the draft, whoever he was!
One thinks the Tomlinson era needs itself a roster update. Dont know if cash would approve of this, but google for Struttdaddy's Rosters - they update all the rosters quite regularly, a new one every couple of weeks. Picking up say v30 or above should cover you for a long time since rosters are unlikely to change dramatically in the near future.
Now to offer my warm welcoming greetings I really felt we were in need of a Tomlinson in here.
The Chargers started slow in Seattle on Saturday, when Tim Dwight fumbled the opening kickoff and the Seahawks recovered. The Hawks' quickly used the momentum to score on a 6-yard TD run by Shaun Alexander and then a 56 bomb from Hasselbeck to Bobby Engram put the Seahawks up 14-0 right of the hop. However, the Chargers bounced back, amounting a TD drive that was capped off by a 1 yard run by LaDainian Tomlinson. Shortly after, many of the backups came in, but it did not affect the Chargers gained momentum. Two Doug Flutie touchdown passes and a Wade Richey field goal later, the Chargers saw themselves grab a 24-17 lead going into half. The Chargers defence really was on the ball, playing great shutdown defence. The offence killed the clock and put the lone 3 points of the 3rd quarter on the board, a 29 yard Wade Richey field goal. Going into the 4th quarter the Chargers were up 27-17 and it did not stop there. Another time-consuming drive lead to a 19 yard field goal by Richey making it 30-17. But the Seahawks didnt give up for a second, marching down the field to score a touchdown on a 3 yard run by Maurice Morris. But the Seahawks would never touch the ball again, and the Chargers would drive down and eventually add another field goal, leaving the final score 33-24.

MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER ON "KEY PERFORMERS"
SS Terrence Kiel
"Kiel got of to a quick start with a huge hit on Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander, he played great this game and showed he wants the starting spot at strong safety."
WR Kassim Osgood
"Osgood hauled in 5 catches and looked very impressive on 3rd down. He used his 6'5 frame to go up and bring balls down."
QB Doug Flutie
"It is undeniable Doug came in and impressed us all, he was almost flawless and we thought he did a great job of reading coverages."
LOLB Matt Wilhelm
"Matt [Wilhelm] came out and played like a real star. He was always aware and made some key plays. He was doing a good job of blitzing and covering backs on the flats."
CB Sammy Davis
"Sammy had an up and down game, being beat once or twice but overall played well knocking down balls and his one acrobatic interception."
NEXT GAME
Saturday August 16th. 10 PM.
Arizona (1-0-0) * San Diego (1-0-0)
Thanks for the welcoming guys! I play on playstation 2 so I can't download rosters. We'll have to wait until the 2nd year untill Philip is a Charger . Thanks again guys!
Just want to say welcome aboard and hopefully you'll stay around for a while so that I can have someone to crack jokes on since your a divisional rival. Your gonna be my whipping boy. Naw J/P Quick questions. Do you think the Chargers made the right move by trading David Boston? If Ladanian Tomlinson were to be out for the year, how many games do you think the Chargers could win without him? Will the Chargers make the playoffs baring injuries?
Do you think the Chargers made the right move by trading David Boston? If Ladanian Tomlinson were to be out for the year, how many games do you think the Chargers could win without him? Will the Chargers make the playoffs baring injuries?
Glad to see another AFC West'er . Raiders? Cheifs or Broncos? I think these questions were about the real chargers but if they weren't i apologize.
David Boston - Yes. Sure he put up decent numbers last year but if you follow the Chargers you know that he was causing way more harm then good. We got alot of young guys and I bet we'll see one step up this year.
If LT was out for the year im guessing 3 games? We're a rebuilding team...
Playoffs barring injuries, ehhh I don't think so. Barring injuries we can probably pick up 6 or 7 wins.
Glad ur not of of those persons that thinks their team ould go to the playoffs when they really not as good as good as others(my best friend, a whiner fan thinks the whiners could win the superbowl). As for the David Boston trade, I think Marty made a mistake because Fletcher was bigger bust than what Deltha O'neal was and coudln't even beat out Buckley out for the Nickel job. I think they made David Boston look more of a troublesome player than what he really is. The only thing he did was go off on coaches cause they would complain that he was too big and needed to loose weight. He still runs hella fast and is a hell of a player. Other than that, that was all he did. Never complained that he didn't get the ball enough and didn't bad mouth any of the other players( T.O.)
While he was in Arizona he got arrested for possesion of cocaine. But when have you ever seen a crack head that big? There's no way it could of been his. Plus he's a very smart young mad and comes from a very good family. If he were to be 100% focused and not worry about his physique, he could be the most dominating receiver in the league. Plus who will be the go to receiver in SD? Reche? Kevin? Tim? Or will it be LT again? None of those receivers could be a starting receiver on any other team. What they should of done was kept him until they got a replacement to take his spot or until one of the younger receivers developed.
If they would have waited any longer, it would have meant more cash going to a guy they felt wasn't right for their team. I think the made the right choice. One of the young WR will have 60+ Receptions this year and a big year. But lets not get too off topic here! The San Diego - Arizona Pre-Season game has kicked off!
The Chargers had a good game in and out on Saturday, when they beat the Arizona Cardinals 28-19 in preseason action. The game was started quickly by a strong drive by the Chargers and highlighted by a 28 yard TD run by standout running back LaDainian Tomlinson. The Cardinals rebounded when Drew Brees threw one of his 2 INT's on the day. This lead to Neil Rackers hitting two field goals to close the gap and make it a 7-6 game. Just after that, Drew Brees lead the Chargers down the field and capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown throw to Rookie Wideout Kassim Osgood. Another Rackers field goal, and a 1 yard TD run from Tomlinson made it a 21-9 game at half. However the Cardinals showed resistance, intercepting third string QB Cleo Lemon in their endzone which lead to a 88 yard TD pass from Blake to McAddley. And shortly after that, Cleo Lemon forced another throw and was intercepted again. The Cardinals squeezed out another field goal and the game was 21-19 with 5:12 remaining. But then the Chargers went on one of their time consuming drives that just didn't end, untill Chatman pounded in the ball from the 1 yard line, 28-19 Chargers.

MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER ON PLAYER PERFORMANCE
QB Drew Brees
"Well Drew struggled today, nothing else to say about it. He threw some good passes and he threw some poor passes. He needs to settle down sometimes and not try to force things."
WR Kassim Osgood
"Osgood played very well again, showing he has what it takes to compete for the starting wide receiver job."
OLB Stephen Cooper / Matt Wilhem
"Ya' know these young guys are really impressing me. Both guys are rookies and undoubtedly will see playing time in our new 3-4 system."
FS Drayton Florence
"Drayton is adjusting really well to the Free Safety position from cornerback. He is making some big plays but needs to work on his hands a little bit to convert knockdowns into INTs"
NEXT GAME
The Chargers travel to Houston to play the Texans who are (2-0) this preseason.
The youth at quarterback for the Chargers finally showed, 3 weeks into the preseason scheduele. 2nd year pro Drew Brees really struggled, throwing 3 interceptions in the first half before being replaced by Cleo Lemon. The first quarter went by quickly, with two dominant drives by each team. The Texans struck first on a 7 yard TD pass from David Carr to Jabar Gaffney, and the Chargers responded when LaDainian Tomlinson ran in the ball from 11 yards out. The second quarter is where things went sour for the Chargers. First Brees was intercepted by McCree which was returned 71 yards for a TD and then Brees was intercepted again, which lead to a 3 yard Dominick Davis TD run. Each team added a 2nd quarter field goal and the game was 24-10 going into half. Both defenses came out strong in the 3rd quarter, and the first to score was Texas, on a 29 yard field goal by Chris Brown. Then San Diego struck back on a 28 yard touchdown run by rookie Jesse Chatman. But right when the Chargers thought they were back in the game, Stacey Mack pounded into paydirt from 4 yards out making it a 34-17 game. Houston added another touchdown, a 29 yard pass from rookie Ragone to Armstrong with 7:35 left in the 4th quarter making it 41-17. Then the Chargers tried to amount a comeback but it was took little too late, first Chatman ran one in from 26 yards out, and then caught a screen pass from Cleo Lemon and took it 81 yards for the TD.
DEF-
MLB Zeke Moreno :: 7 Tackles. 1 sack.
OLB Ben Leber :: 3 Tackle 2 Tackles for loss.
SS Terrence Kiel :: 5 Tackles. 2 Fumble recoveries.
CB Quentin Jammer :: 6 Tackles. 1 Forced Fumble. 1 Fumble recovery.
K-
Brooks Barnard :: 4 punt 29.7 yard average
Wade Richey :: 1-1 45 yard long
MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER ON PLAYER PERFORMANCE
QB Drew Brees
"I'm very disapointed with the way Drew played today, I think he did some things that really suprised me in the way I thought we had progressed from those issues."
QB Cleo Lemon
"I enjoyed watching Cleo play, I thought he made some great reads but I still don't think he is ready to be an NFL starter yet."
SS Terrence Kiel
"Well I mean Terrence [Kiel] played great today, he was all over the field picking up loose balls and delivering bone-jarring hits. Great game for the young man."
OLB Ben Leber
"Ben had a good game and I'd like to just talk about him for a minute. We really think that Ben Leber is the next thing for this defence. He is starting to really come into his own and become a great pass rusher and is outstanding in covering out of the backfield."
NEXT GAME
The Chargers host the (2-0-1) San Francisco 49ers next Friday.
A disapointing final performance for the Chargers saw them fall to 2-2 in the preseason finale. Brees struggled early again and Cleo Lemon came in and played well.
MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER ON PRESEASON PERFORMANCE
QB Drew Brees
"Drew had so much potenital going into this preseason, but we feel as if some of this potential has been wasted, we thought he would be penciled in as the starter for our week one game at Kansas City for sure but the lackluster preseason performance has our coaching staff second guessing ourselves."
QB Cleo Lemon
"Cleo Lemon may or may not be the man on opening day, as of right now i'd say he has average-high chances of being the #1 signal caller on day one. The only other circumstance is if we bring in a new player, but the timing could have been better."

Chargers win in Arrowhead in a all offensive battle
The Chargers arrived in Kansas city, and they came to play football. The biggest suprise when they arrived was the news that young Arkansas State graduate Cleo Lemon would be the starting quarterback for the bolts. They came out of the gate strong, scoring on their first two drives, both capped by LaDainian Tomlinson touchdown runs. Lemon was impressive all game, and especially in the first quarter when he threw 6 completions in a row on an outstanding drive. Shortly after the Chargers grabbed the 14-0 lead, they were hungry for more, and made it 21-0 on a 12 yard Cleo Lemon pass to Kevin Dyson. The onslaught would continue just before halftime when the Chargers defense scored two defensive touchdowns in a span of 21 seconds. First it was Quentin Jammer who intercepted Trent Green and brought it back 83 yards and then it was rookie free safety Drayton Florence who took it 51 yards off a Trent Green INT. The Cheifs added one touchdown and FG in the first half and at halftime the score was 42-10. The Chargers came off as somewhat sloppy in the 2nd half, but still put 17 points on the board, contributing to their 59 for the game.

COACH SCHOTTEHEIMER ON THE GAME
REPORTER:: Coach, you have to be happy with the effort from your guys today, I mean you walk into Arrowhead stadium, immediatley silence the crowd, and grab a week one win. How big is this?
MS:: Well we need to remember that is is just week one and that we have 15 more football games to play. At the same time it is huge because it provides alot of our young guys with the taste of victory, and they will be anxious to get out here again and play ball.
REPORTER:: Marty, what made you go with Cleo Lemon, and if you could, talk about his game.
MS:: He played great ball today, I think he showed alot of exellent qualities today and really opened some eyes. We decieded to go with Cleo because his play in the preseason, we thought he would provide us with the best chance to win this game.
REPORTER:: How about the play of your young defense, forcing turnovers and playing hard nose football.
MS:: Thats exactly what we want from these guys, rough tough football. Good hits, smart plays, and throw in a couple turnovers, thats the way a defense can get confident and excel. The young guys came in and showed some great determination, and skill. I think Terrence [Kiel] was playing real hard ball and making some big hits, and I think some of the more technique players like young Drayton Florence played well.
REPORTER:: How big is it to have a guy like Tomlinson on your offense, who had over 200 total yards today and 3 touchdowns. The other team has to know that he's your gameplan, but he still gets it done. How do you focus on using his strengths?
MS:: Well we get him the ball and he makes some outstanding plays, which is really great to see. He makes it so much easier for a young quarterback like Cleo Lemon to come in and make the transition to opening day football. He takes pressure off of our other players and he's a amazing player.
REPORTER:: Overall, how did you feel about the transition to the 3-4 in todays game.
MS:: The guys have really picked it up well, we [the coaches] are pleased the way the young guys are really molding with a couple of the vets, we feel our defense is starting to gain some key chemistry and think this is really important.
NEXT GAME
The Chargers host another divison rival next week, the Denver Broncos.
Tomlinson16... I would welcome you, but I've barely been here myself. But nice franchise. I think that its going to be tough but fun starting with the Chargers as opposed to a top ranked team. That was a killer win over the Chiefs....
As kind of a Miami fan i want to thank you for donating to our roster. First Seau and now Boston. Although alittle lacking at times in real life. In madden they're killer .,.. =p
Anyway nice franchise. Hope to hear more soon and hope you don't wind up with a top 10 pick.
Ahhhh! Another avid Franchiser! Welcome to the board man! Sorry it is a late welcome. I really enjoyed reading about your Franchise and I hope you do not lose interest. Sorry about my Texans whooping up on you. I'm also glad you have some updated rosters for other teams, like my Texans. The fact you got them Marlon McCree and Derick Armstrong makes you a good guuy hehe. Can't wait to read more!
