I was somewhat happy with this year's Madden, but there was still a lot of room for improvement (this is for next-gen).
1. I think they really need to work on the catch animations. I do not understand how, in a sim-based sports game, a receiver can leap 10 feet into the air. It's not physically possible, and frankly it looks ridiculous and arcade-ish. Also, why the hell can't I throw to a receiver's outside shoulder?? Even when I throw it in the direction of their outside shoulder, they do some weird backwards spin, catching it in front of their face, facing backwards. The receiving animations HAVE to look more natural and realistic.
2. Obviously the turnover issue is pretty big. EA supposedly released a patch to reduce fumbles, but I feel like it didn't do much. I don't usually use the cover-up button, but the one time I did, I fumbled. How does that happen??
3. This next one kind of goes along with the receiver animation. I'm sick of throwing a pass to a wide open receiver, only to have a linebacker or safety fly 5-10 yards across the field and deflect/intercept the pass. It pisses me off!! Also, when a linebacker is standing still (maybe spying the quarterback) and I throw a pass somewhat near the linebacker (although not close enough to realistically picked), the linebacker goes from standing still to levitating, and he picks off the pass. This is probably the thing that frustrates me the most. I can't play a game without throwing one or several interceptions. Now I realize that it can happen, but when I throw an interception, I want to feel like I made a bad decision and it was my fault.
4. The environment needs to improve. Fan animation is terrible, along with sideline players (looks like the current gen). Also, the crowd HAS TO react to what's going on in the game. I want to feel the difference between the preseason and the Super Bowl; close games and blow outs. Along with that comes pre-game, half-time, and post-game shows, but everyone always talks about that so I'll spare you.
5. I like to play on all-madden (mostly because all-pro is way too easy), but I feel like something goes wrong when I switch between difficulties. I feel like as soon as I switch to all-madden, instead of the opposing team getting better, I feel like the CPU on my team gets dumber. For instance, they react to the ball much slower. It's frustrating when the opposing quarterback throws quick passes to receivers on streaks, and there isn't enough time to control the safety and move him all the way to where the ball is (considering
they don't move at all when the ball is in the air). Also, zone-coverage is terrible. Most of the time defensive players don't play the players in the zone, they just continue to drop back and most players end up in the same zone, which is why I almost exclusively play man coverage.
6. Finally, GET RID OF THAT DAMN RADIO ANNOUNCER. EA just locked up the NFL license for a lot longer; they have tons of money and power. GET SOME REAL ANNOUNCERS AND ANALYSTS. Even NFL head coach has gotten real analysts, and they've only had one other game (which was a flop) (Let me add that I'm excited for NFL HC 09).
Please, EA, you don't have to take all my ideas (although I hope you take them into consideration), but look over my thoughts and remember them when you're making Madden 09. I love Madden and will always play it, but I hope that you guys want us to enjoy the game that we're playing, and not just make a half-*** game that people will buy anyway (not saying 08 was half-***). Please tell me it's not all about the money, but customer satisfaction as well. I really liked the gameplay in NCAA 08, so maybe look at that and compare. If you read this novel I just wrote, thank you. I really appreciate it.
Lol, I agree with most your saying, but your too much of a critic. On All Madden, you actually have to throw to an open receiver to make a catch. Its realistic. A QB wouldn't throw to a covered receiver expecting a catch. EA focused more on features and game play than background graphics. Anyway, if you want EA to read this, you might wanna email them this thread.

Emailing EA wont do you any good.... You are better off posting your wishlists here and EA will see them and if you have good ideas.. they might take one of them. Or if I see something I can bring it up to them and maybe it will get fixed.
Emailing them is a waste of time and bandwidth.

Ok, good. In my opinion, you're an idiot. Good thing I can't be wrong!

I only agree on a little of what you are saying. However, in the NFL, a quarterback has to be able to thread the needle and find holes in the defense most of the time when they are passing. Because the talent in the NFL is so great, there are rare instances where a receiver is wide open. What I was saying is that when I'm playing Madden and I find a receiver with a decent-size window, the defensive players float to the ball. It's like a magnet, they can be running in the other direction or standing still, but as soon as the ball is in the air, they magically fly/float over to the ball and pick it off. Unfortunately, the human race has not invented a device that allows us to levitate. That's what makes it unrealistic. When we find a way to fly on our own, EA, be my guest, add it in the game. Until then, try to work the laws of physics and gravity into your games please!!

I could not agree more with the defenders being able to get to the ball so quick, in last years Madden and the ones before it I maybe threw 1 int a game and I could go a few games without throwing one to, this year I throw at least 3 I know some of the blame can be put on me to but some of the ints that I throw are just dumb.
Another thing that helps lead to interceptions is not being able to throw to the outside shoulder of the receiver like you said, instead they turn around and try to catch the ball its very frustrating. I like the idea to of getting different announcers to I think I may have mentioned that in a different post, I thought it would be cool if EA could get the announcers for each team to do the commentary.
If they change announcers then they need to get rid of Marshall Faulk at the beginning and end of games. I don't know about any of you but i would much rather have a pre-game and post game show rather than the rediculous idea of having a ring builder...which is not even fun. They need to start making this game like the NFL...not just some stuff they decide to throw in and call it realistic. My ideas:
1-Workouts should be different for each position..and not so boring.
2-Just an idea but i think it would be pretty neat to have where you could see the draft...not just have something tell you.
3-I can't stress enough on how much i would love this game if they would bring back tattoos and put in towels or handwarmers etc.
4-This kind of goes weith the towel thing. Uniform improvement. Why are they so shiny? Its like the jerseyts are made of silk. Also they should make where the helmet can be knocked off again. Not all the time but its awesome when it happens. The uniforms need to get more dirty...how do you play in mud and not...get muddy? Maybe throw in some splashing.....when you run in rain or...get tackled...theres a little bit of splashing going on.
5-Injuries...they always seem to be able to walk away. Bring in some carts...carry them off...or...make it where teammates help them off the field...give it some realistic feel here.
6-Stadiums look ok...but the atmosphere such as fans etc doesnt. It would be pretty neat if they would do scan overs of the crowd before games start or something. Oh yeah...somehow make it where if your team is say...1-10...the stadium isnt packed with cheering fans. I would like to know why no team has their mascot anywhere on this game also.
7- TO add on to that pre and post game thing, at the beginning instead of people talking...could have the national anthem and a flyover or something?
8-Ive noticed most teams have a "kickoff" song they play. Being a Panthers fan, they always play welcome to the jungle at kickoff...id like to see them incorporate that into the game as well.
Now for Gameplay
1-The shoulder thing...i agree with. You should be able to pass to the outside shoulder....not just one area.
2-What is it with every tackle almost being a leg tackle...making me do a cartwheel. Get some more tackles...even if they arent always huge hits...when you get stuffed at the line when you hand off...its not a huge hit.
3- INT's...we all know this problem.
4-i like being able to control the defense with the new setup they put in there...but why is it the higher the level you play, its like your team becomes stupid. Dont tell me well its supposed to be harder...no...it should just mean the opposing team is harder to beat.
5- Playing as a D-linemen sucks in 08. Its really....not easy to get through for a sack. Now i know it shouldnt be but...its almost like you cant get anything.
6-I think they should bring back stadium editor. If anyone remembers...in franchise mode...you could edit the team you were usings stadium...made it a little fun. Also you got to advertise etc.
finally...just a little something that came to mind...a fun little feature
In real NFL games, you have commerical breaks. At the game itself...they stop playing until the game comes back on. So say theres commercial breaks in the game...and during these breaks...you can change your strategy...or talk to certain players and like i said...change strategy.
Oh and one more thing...where are the refs and people who mark the downs.....they just like disappeared..unless theres a penalty...then they vanish

Do you remember the original head coach?? You could do that during timeouts, but it was kind of a waste of time. Good idea, but they've already done that, and it was a bit of a flop, although the changing strategies thing might work. The talking to players = :-(
I think its pretty hard overall to get a sack in the game even when I blitz a LB along with the linemen, I use the Steelers so I understand they have only 3 linemen so it will be a bit harder to get through but yeah it is very hard to get through unless you can get a good jump, but then that usually brings up another problem that I have ran into and that is the guy I am using will go the opposite direction of the opposing player.
I agree to with the practice drills they do get a bit boring and could use a change up.
They need to have a superbowl celebration. Im sick and tired of seeing my team jump up and down and thats it. They should have the coms walk out on the field with the trophy and hand it to the head coach on a stand.
The draft should be different but they one thing i hate is when you import players off of college that sya your player left in his junior year and then in Madden some how he turns out to be 24 or 25 years old. I hardly ever see a 21 year old player and a 22 year old player. If they leave early then they should be young not like 24.
The offseason coaching changes need to be different. Just its dumb and something needs to change. The entire thing needs to be redone basically.
in Gameplay I just hate seeign a linebacker jump like 10 feet in the air to INT the ball. Kinda pisses me off cause its alway the computer doing it not me.
Players need to hold out and be unhappy. Like Chad Johnson was on ur team and he felt he wants more money then he should hold out until he gets traded or yiou pay him.
Thats it for right now on changes need to be made that i can think of for now.

I have had some players hold out before I think it was in 06 or 05 I'm not to sure but it has not happend to me since but I do like the idea.
It was in 2006 or 2005 when they came out with the unhappy/ holdout player and then they just deleted from the game after 1 year
They gotta bring it back and thats all there is to it, only it would be nice if you got an email or something from the explaining why they are holding out which would be for money but it would still be cool.
im not so concerned with the little things ( i.e fan and sideline animations ) im more concerned with the actual game its self
my biggest thing is the lineman both ways blocking is clumsy and d-lineman problem is an off-shoot of the o-lineman problem a) the spin move sucks and takes way to long and 100% of the time by the time u get to the QB hes thrown the only time it doesnt happen is on hail marys and when nearly every CB gets a very good press
and linebacker blitzes are too cheap they nearly always get through untouched
I cant believe I didnt notice the ref was not in the way on the defensive side of the ball until reading this... lol.
It used to bug the hell out of me how at the break of every huddle the ref and SS would dance with each other to get to thier spots. Now there is no ref and I didnt even notice.

And no wonder we can through more crossing routes under 10 yards, there is no ref to intentionally get in the receiver's way.

I would really like to see the EA staff take Full Advantage of the NFL Exclusive rights.
1. Presentation- Pre,Post , and Halftime show .
Get the NFL Network & ESPN for the Pregame & Post game shows : ESPN Countdown gives a brief run down of the games for that week and who is Hot & Cold and NFL Network Gameday for the Post game show with what happened and who was the weeks biggest performers ?
Halftime Show- Just have Chris Collinsworth give opinions on what he sees the Teams needing to do for the second half .
Show the Fans entering the stadium and those that leave during a blowout game . Fans that show the emotions of Rival games and games in the Playoffs and show them running on to the field after winning the Division or playoff and Super Bowl games .
Show Roger Goodell walking out and handing the George Halas or Lamar Hunt award to the NFC & AFC Team in the Championship games . Have him handing the Lombardi Trophy to the HC of the Super Bowl winner and game M.V.P.
Improve the progression system in the Franchise Mode so the players actually improve for rookies and young players and veterans decrease when closing into their retirement point not drastic . Since Brett Farve is playing well at 16 years plus in the game but slowly .
Same with the Coaching Staff I want to see them progress to and see the positional coaches expanded so I can hire the QB Coach or the OL Coach or the LBer Coach to add to my squad .
I like the weather aspect introduced for 2009 but hope the players actually look like they played in this weather as I want to see the uniforms get dirty and have clumps of the field in their facemask when Tackled or in the mud .
