Custom playbook needs work

I am new to the Madden franchise of games. I have always wanted to pick it up but kept putting it off. In many ways I am happy with the game. There is however one aspect of it that is driving me nuts! Creating custom plays with the custom playbook feature is a joke. Honestly, you cannot create playaction, slotback sweeps, reverses, flea flickers or many other plays directly. I find that this is a serious shortcoming to the game.

There really should be a more diverse set of options when creating assignments. Especially in the backfield with the quarterback and running backs. For instance, could there not be a list of assignments similar to the drop down menu for receivers? For instance, lets say you want to create a HB counter. You should be able to direct your FB to dive into the 2 hole and your HB to hit the 1 hole then set up your QB to fake to the FB then hand the ball off to the HB. Not only that but the inability to simply create a play action pass is killing me.

Additionally, even if your forget those quirks (major flaws actually) there are times when the play you have designed simply will not work. Not in a strategic way, in an mechanical way. The QB will miss the hand-off or not pitch the ball off.

This is a serious injustice to a football game like Madden and the idea of creating a custom playbook. Who of us as kids did not write plays in the dirt with their finger or jot them down on a piece of paper hoping to one day use one in the big game? For most of us Madden is as close as we are going to get. I think that the developer should work to remedy this shortfall and provide an update, if nothing else fix it in the next version.

In my opinion, every route for every player in the formation should be customizable. That is how plays are drawn in the real world, routes for the running backs that cross with the quarterback's, ect. That is how it should be here. Not only that but specialized blocking assignments for traps and counters could be done this way.

I know that this is a lot of *****ing but, to be honest the last madden game I owned was in 1992 for my 386 and it had more dynamic play creation...

No flame... You forgot about the bugs like the the Tackles playing QB sometimes. Or you haven't come across that yet?

Custom playbooks have been worthless since they were introduced to Madden. Sorry you had to just now find that out.

I was never a real big fan of custom play books. As long as it has off tackle and dive plays, Im good to go.

I never do the custom cos they arent good...Its a nice idea done poorly...
