Recentley I came across an article talking about Pat Tillman being honored by being put on the cover of Madden 2006.
I am totally against that, unless a part of the proceeds from the inevitable massive success of the game go towards the PTF.
The whole thing got me thinking however, about the NFL's superstars this year, and who should be put on the cover. Peyton Manning had a phenomenal year likley never to be repeated again, Daunte Culpepper had a fantastic year, Donovon McNabb, Ed Reed, Ben Roethlisberger, or hell, I'd even go Drew Brees.
So if you had to choose from this years studs, who do you think would make it?
I think its really hard to predict at this time, because the cover player usually has something to do with a new or improved aspect of the game. Vick was on the cover of the Madden 2004 game because of the new "Playmaker" ability. Ray Lewis was on last year's cover because of the improved defense ("Fear the D"). It all depends on what new features EA Sports plans on including in Madden 2006.
QBs: I think, with his 3rd superbowl ring, Tom Brady has earned a shot at the cover. Peyton Manning, of course, deserves it because of his once-in-a-lifetime wonder season. McNabb and Culpepper are both worthy, but they have virtually no shot after what Manning and Brady have done.
RBs: The field is crowded here, no HB really stands out from last years class. There's Curtis Martin, Shaun Alexander, LaDanian Tomlinson, Kevin Jones, Julius Jones...but out of respect (and because I'm a Jets fan), my vote would be for 2005 rushing champ Curtis Martin.
WRs: Terrell Owens. Enough said.
TEs: Gotta go with Antonio Gates here, for the young and explosive image, even though Tony Gonzalez is the best in the game. I highly doubt a TE will ever grace the cover of Madden.
D-Line: Its a two man race here, between Julius Peppers and Dwight Freeney. I think Peppers would make a better cover boy becuase he's more well known that Freeney.
Linebackers: Ray Lewis is out, because he already had his turn. I don't think we'll be seeing another LB on the cover of Madden for quite some time, but if for some reason a LB winds up on the cover of next year's game, it should be Brian Urlacher or Takeo Spikes.
D-Backs: Not much competition for defensive POY Ed Reed.
With all that said, I think its really a 3 man race between Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Terrell Owens. I'd love to see Owens on the cover because...well...he's my favorite player.
I agree, that it is a 3 man race. Brady, Manning and Owens...however...I hope Owens isnt on it, cause I prolly won't buy it if he is. Also, I doubt any TE will ever be on the cover. If any TE is, it should be TG, hands down! But I think he'll make the cover of NBA Live before he make it on Madden.
It'll be between McNabb and Culpepper if U ask me. The Reason I say that is because of the game NFL Fever that Payton was on. I know they want make another NFL Fever but he was their competition. I just don't see them putting him on the cover this soon after going against them.
Peyton Manning all the way. With all of the records he broke, TD's in a season , consecutive mutiple passing TD's, and more there shouldnt me a doubt in anyone's mind.

LOL Swoosh...so you decide what to buy based on who's on the cover :P
No I just don't support TO. There is absolutely nothing I like about the guy. Plus I would never have a game in my room where I have to see his face al the time. He annoys the **** out of me!!! :BoomSmili <T.O Here>
lol same swoosh. G65 wasnt mannng on the cover of nfl fever or somethuing though...i dont know if that really makes a difference....

Ok if you really don't like the guy on the cover, get a mock up picture (can be found all over the internet) print it off, and slide it in the case over the top of whatever idiot they put on the front, If they put TO on the cover, thats what I will be doing.

you know what... I'm going on the opposites of ya'll... I don't want any panthers on the cover. I think we have had enough injuries and bad years...

For Madden people the best way to explain it is that he has a very low awareness.
