Madden '06 Wishlist

Well, let's start it off I guess.

1) Tom Brady on the cover: Let the curse begin, bring down the Pats.
2) More appropriate application of stats: When you look at them, sometimes it just doesn't add up. Take Mike Alstott for example, in real life, he runs like a freight train, but in Madden, he can be brought down by somebody like Michael Hawthorne. Same application with running backs who tend to loose the football.
3) Better design with sweep plays: I don't know if this is just me, but sweeps seem to never work for me.
4) Penalites: Helmet-to-helmet contact would be great, even though you are flagged for them. (To me: If it happens in the NFL, it happens in Madden.) Illegal touching, I.E. If a player steps out of bounds and them comes in, and is the first to touch, Defensive holding, offensive pass interference, and the like.
5) Challenges: I've had touchdowns where the reciever had one foot out of bounds, and he was STANDING, and the play was reversed for a touchdown.
6) Celebrations: Much like in NCAA 2005, they should incorporate more celebrations, and user-initiated celebrations. They should throw in the Dirty Bird, Colts-Bumping thing, '85 Bears high fiving thing, and a much better Lambeau Leap.
7) Better drafts: This has already been well covered by most people
8) Online Gameplay*:
A) Stat-ticker: Maybe a ticker-type thing that pops up, showing who your buddies are playing against, what the score is, that sort of stuff.
B) More minigames: Personally, I felt that the RB drill was a very clever thing put in, and that they should try to incorporate more into online gameplay.
C) The ability to challenge a call: Haven't we all had that experience before?
D) Stricter Depth-Chart restrictions: If in life, the starting QB for whatever team is not playing that week because of an injury, they should make it so that online players cannot simply go back into depth charts, and put him in because in Madden, he can play.
E) More frequent Roster-Updates: This may sound like a bit much, and I can understand how time-consuming it can be, but this is only a request.
9) Home field crowds: I think this, also from NCAA 2005, should be incorporated into the gameplay of Madden. A great idea, bring it to the Pros.
10) Indoor/Outdoor advantages: Give player boosts when they are in situations where they actually show an advantage. I.E. Up the Rams' Player's speed when they play home. They are so much faster on their turf than outside. Or Green Bay when the weather is below freezing, seeing how dominant they are when that happens, or Green Bay in the playoffs at home. A downer would be Favre in a Dome. That sort of thing.
11) Match-up Stick: Again, another invention from NCAA 2005, I believe it could find a good home in Madden '06.
12) Sleepers: Why can't a 6th round pick in the draft turn out to be a 1st-rate stud?
13) Different commentators - different days: While this may not pretain towards Madden itself, I believe that they should have John and Al commentate when games are played on Monday nights, and Thursday special occasions, and then bring in other commentators for different games. IE Joe Buck, Collinsworth, the Fox Crew for regular Sunday games, and Sunday nights would entail the ESPN crew. ((I know this would infringe on other company's and other titles, but I actually think it would up the gameplay of the game that much more. Because how tired do you get of John and Al, every game?))
14) Player Suspensions/ Off the field activities: Koren Robinson, point right there. Why can't there be infractions off the field that require Coach-punishment?
15) Better running game: Being able to jump over the pile, push the pile forward by dropping the shoulder and trying to churn out yards, and all around, try and make it so that sometimes it's the Runningbacks that are dishing out the pain as opposed to the secondary and linebackers.
16) Better passing game: Make it so that different recievers run some routes better than others, that sort of thing, or are better blocking recievers than others, IE The Blitzburgh recievers
17) Player Egos: While this isn't really important, it would add to the realism of the game, like TO taunting the secondary, or Ray-Ray making the big stop and doing his classic dances. There has to be more interaction in my mind between players, really capture their mannuerisms.
18) Indepth injuries: I remember in like, Madden '97, the little ambulance would come out and pick players up. Now, somebody would break their leg, and walk off the field holding their arm. I think that they should make it so that when a player sustains a serious injury, he needs to be helped off the field by a cart, and that he should be shown going to the locker room.
19) Half-time shows: Hey, if ESPN 2k5 could pull it off, why can't Madden?
20) Post-game shows: Same concept, draw it out further.
21) Gamebreaks: Again, show what's going on around the league.
22) Hot and cold streaks: Teams get into funks and grooves, IE Pros: Bills, Packers, Steelers. Cons: Minnesota, San Fran, Miami
23) Players comming out of retirment: Well, you look at it, players sometimes do. Deion did it, just like, a one-year stint. Cris Carter did it. Granted they wouldn't be that great, but it'd be fun to see them lace 'em up again.
24) Contracts: Already been covered.
25) Rotation of game refs: Not really a necessity, but it would add to the realism again, if we saw different refs now and then. And they could even have tendencies, like known to be bad judges, or good ones. Make insane calls, or good ones. Do we have to go back to the Washington-Dallas MNF game to see bad calls?
26) Practice squads: Again, already covered.
27) Practice weeks: Able to boost player abilites during season, granted it would be much harder, because if it was too easy, you'd end up with a 99 rated team by the end of the season. But with that, you must also risk injury, seeing as that does tend to happen during practices too.
28) Better spotting of the ball: How many times have I seen Green get stuffed, but fall forward passed the line, and have the ball spotted before it?
29) Forward progress: Ties in with the penalites and previous statment.
30) Hard-counts: Some QB's tend to make a hard count better than others, like Brett Favre's classic "Walk away from the line, then get back and snap it" one. I think that could help.
31) A bit of an upgrade in ability points: Some people do have a tendency to get angry with the application of speed, and sometimes I don't blame them. Sometimes I find myself scratching my head at how the hell that play happened.
32) Better physics: How can a linebacker, with his back to the ball, know suddenley when it's comming and able to swat it away? DB's sure, but lineman and linebackers are a bit questionable.
33) Better application of tackling: Have players record half-sacks, assisted/non-assisted, and in often times, having the player grab somebody around the wasit, but lack the power to bring them down, so they drive them out of bounds.

Yes, like on a clothes line tackle, that would result in an amount the player would have to pay. That can come out of the teams expense. I like that idea.

Even though I hate collinsworth, I think this is a good idea. But if this happens, which I doubt it will, then we will get tired of hearing their same three lines every game as well.

Good idea. Great idea. Of course, it's easier to just trade the bad folks off your team if this were to happen.

Another good idea cause it's a change of scenery. Although, you could be a on a game winning drive, and they breakin with a game break of the SF/Ari game....LOL!!

Already been mentioned in other threads, and every one agrees, this is a good idea.

Not good!! Who's gonna trust an old guy to come out of retirement? Are you gonna want to sign them? Not me!

I like your post and you have many thoughts and ideas out there! Thanks for the info!!

Good suggestions dude. You obviously put a lot of thought into it. You even put some things down that I had thought of before and forgot to put in my wishlist. Great ideas. Hopefully you'll keep posting around here.

Thumbs up madden 2006

1.i think that they should have better endzone celebrations

2.it shouldnt be so easy to score a touchdown an the scores for games shouldnt be so high

3.passing should get harder and running should get more phisical

4.the pre game shows should get more intense an they should have special events before the super bowl

5.i liked the home field advantage on ncaa i think they should use that an see how rattled a player is.

6.a player drafted late in the draft should be able to be a big time player

7.the cheerleaders should look better

8.create a team should get more detaild

9.players should get frush strated and start messing up

10.they should have more penalties

11.they should have the greatest game feature off of ncaa an you should be able to retire players jersys

12.the training camp feature should have players holding out and have the media around your team

13.players should fight and argue

14.payton manning should be on the cover

I like all of them but just so you know this one:

14) Player Suspensions/ Off the field activities: Koren Robinson, point right there. Why can't there be infractions off the field that require Coach-punishment?

Won't happen. Real players would have a fit if that were the case because they we're being portrayed in a negative light. I read about that somewhere too, won't happen.

Just like the REAL thing

1. more face masks on helmets.

2. the option for normal or long socks like worn by Mike Vick, Torry Holt & Chad Johnson. hand warmers around players weist on cold days & towels.

3. clips of players chatting on the bench with their helmets off.

4. shots of coaches & cordinators at work on the sidelines.

5. the NFL playoff logo & AFC/NFC championship game logos on the field during these games.

6. the feel of post season intensity.

7. superbowl decals on teams jersey during superbowl games.

8. a hall for jersey's of superbowl mvp's & record breakers along with their stats for that game.

9. show John & Al in the booth during the intro of each game before showing players warming up. Show teams starting line ups like done on abc's monday night football.

10. lights, smoke & fireworks as home team hit's the field out of the tunnel.

11. teams home field traditions such as the steelers fans waving their terrible towels, tampa bay's pirate ship cannons fire after scores, green bay's lambau leap, oakland's black hole & so on.

12. players individuality such as dances & celebrations of the leagues stars like Ray Lewis's pre-game dance, TO's autographed ball & his muscle pose & The Buses roll. Also a choice of TD celebrations & historic dances for created players, one example Deion Sanders strut.

13. the choice to play your DB's or WR's both ways.

14. dirtier uni's in bad weather games.

15. more options & features for created teams & in fanchise mode, like the option to create a dome stadium or a retractable roof stadium which can be played in open or closed & more stadium back drops (i'd like to get a feel of a city if i moved my team there like vegas). also make stadium up grades that can be actually noticeable, like with the purchase of a new jumbo tron or teams switch to grassy turf.

16. the chance to host the super bowl in your teams hometown in fanchise mode.

17. up dates of the star seniors coming out of college nearing the end of the season in the news.

18. i'd like to see the cart back for serious injuries & the training staff helping players off the field for less serious injuries. maybe even see the players on the side line watching the rest of the game if the injury isn't that serious with a cast on a arm or foot & cruches (pending).

Thank you for taking the time to read my suggestions & i hope that some of my ideas help to make the Madden experience just like the REAL thing.

Exclamation Training Camp / Coaching Options

Good Training Camp setup but...

You cant upgarde ur offensive linemen, granted their overall will throughout the season but why couldnt u setup a session just for O Linemen? Also, why cant u up ur Blocking on Receivers?

Talking about that, why cant u (User Coach) get on ur Receivers to block for the Tailback?

Another point regarding Blocking, Backs today are loosing the Fine Art of picking up Blocks/Blitz, why cant the Coach get on backs for that?

And gotta question, whats up with the older teams?, its all random numbers, no names; It would be ALOT better to coordinate the year with real numbers and names.

Yea, hmm.. If I recall correctly Ray did break his wrist in the game against Indy, which I think is the reason he's giving the Pro Bowl a miss. Also, this season has been the one where Ray Ray lost his spot as the greatest linebacker around and became very much human. So.. curse still in order?

Yep. Corners really ought to have pathetic tackling stats, body size ought to be taken into account somehow. i.e. easier to tackle a small guy with 80 break tackle than a big guy with 80 break tackle.

Yea, there are also absolutely zero sideline catch animations in the game and very often your running backs show no awareness of the sideline and swing their legs wildly out of bounds when it's a comfortable catch. I'd also like to add that "and inches" happens an infuriating amount of times in Madden, minor irk, but in a real game it sometimes never even occurs. In Madden I have as many "and inches" as I do "and 10".

If you create a player with the biggest body mass and put his break tackle at 85 or whatever number, you'll find that he is way harder to tackle than say Clinton Portis with his 88 break tackle.

Ahh, that's nice!

Phatboy, i've seen that too, but it's a mere adjustment on the standard catch animation. You know what I'm talking about - wide receivers leaning out to catch balls, landing on their toes inside the line and falling on their face.

Yeah... All you really have to do is look up stats after the season... LT has a higher brktckl than many of the other guys... But gets fewer. Compare with bigger backs.

Lightbulb the bus

i think that momentum and weight should be accounted for . like if a 245lb RB who is running full speed shouldnt be stopped by a 160lb CB standing still.

What about out of game injuries, such as a player was playing basketball at home and sprained his ankle...
and weight rooms... lifting weights to gain strength (bench press, curls, etc...) or endurence training like tredmill. just like on grand theft auto ex. button tap

I'm glad people read my post, and I'm even gladder that people began adding in their own suggestions. If EA takes a good hard look at this thread and incorporates some of the things we all mentioned, 2006 will be amazing.

I would like to see a player mode. Where you would either take over an existing player or control a rookie. You would control things like holdouts, hiring agents, trade demands, attitude. It would be like Rags to Riches.
Like in Plax's case, his agent wanted too much money for Plax, he was fired and Plax was almost immedaitly signed by the Giants.

Good ideas

I totally agree with that, taking control of players and re-working contracts would add a depth of reality to the game that would just make it that much better.

Another thing I think we should be allowed to do, is more along the lines of a created team idea. Instead of having to replace a team when taking a created team into Franchise mode, they should allow you to enter it in as an expansion team and build it from the ground up.

Secondly, a Combine type feature should be included, where you can scout the new draftees, judge their 40's, Cone Drills, VL, Benches, Squats, etc.
