Defense Wins Championships - Fantasy Draft Strategy
I took all defensive players till my d roster was filled with just starters. Then I went to O and special teams. The d I assembled is impenetreble. Play with SD
Ends Grant and Coleman (my weak point)
Nose Tommie Harris
OLB's Davis & Hawk
MLB's Ryans & Beason
CB's Hall and Trufant
FS Bethea
SS Landry
Still got some weapons on offense - Jamarcus, Lendale, Ginn, Desean, Marcedes and Hester. Drafted Russell then went all 5 linemen.

Blah, Defense is easier than offense in Madden if you know how to play. Try drafting a good offense and playing with a so-so D and you will win by 60+.

haha ya if you have speed you are gonna win...who would you rather have pass rushing the QB in Madden 09 Mario Williams with his 85 speed or Justin Tuck with his I believe its an 78 speed...give me the 85 speed anyday

Well yeah, but give me Mario in real life too. Where it gets ridiculous is when I'd rather have Devin Hester at WR over Reggie Wayne.
if your good enough u don't need speed if u don't have speed u have strength and that is a good consultation to speed and if u have fast LB it helps but big hitters force fumbles and that keeps your offense on the field.
The simple fact is that he is a over rated piece of **** that can't cover. He makes bad reads on routes and lacks the ability to recover when he is beaten.
For Madden people the best way to explain it is that he has a very low awareness.
yeah they get to the ball quicker but if they hit harder i would rather have a fumble than a plain tackle and your corners and safeties are fast to begin with
I'd rather my fast Line Backer hit the Half Back than my fast corner back or safety.
Yeah, strong linebacker can cause fumbles, but I think if you can stop the half back 3 times in a row at the line of scrimmage is probably more likely than causing a fumble in 1/3 plays.

maybe but your lineman stop the o-line then your linebackers come in the middle and stuff them too u don't need fast guys to stop the player in the middle of the field and if they run outside your corners and safety will get him

The Middle of the Field, I agree, you don't need much speed, as usually, the ball is going up the middle to the linebackers.
But let's look at a HB toss play. If done right, your Wide Reciever is set to block the CB, and your TE is set to block a linebacker AND POSSIBLY a safety, but even he doesn't, I'll take the chance of highlight sticking the safety and running for the TD, if you have nothing but slow players.
I can agree with you on the middle of the field, MBL, and DTs. But Ends, Outside Backers, and Corners, you NEED speed. Safeties can go either way, cause they are already pretty far back.

always draft good OL and DL first, then get a capable RB that can do it all (eg. McGahee, Peterson (vikings peterson) and the like) and a good TE with hands helps on O.
D is about fast LB, fast DBs and usually if u draft a fast FS u just draft speed. 2008 i use to draft Josh Bullocks and over first 3 years with me he had 16,12,14 picks in each year.
but im finding it hard to find the rough gems in this years madden, alot of good players all go at once, like round 3 half the good CBs and WRs are gone lol.
every year ive drafted a sub-par QB last year it was Trent Edwards, this year its looking like Flacco, Ryan or Maybe Rodgers (as i did in 2007) and most times i get Dave Carr as a backup
just my .02 but fantasy drafting this years copy (im on ps2 anyways) is a little different..still hard figuring out some good combos to get
I usually go with a RE or ROLB(depending on the defense) with my 1st round pick, since that is what I play as then take 4 offensive lineman; since for some reason centers always go later. It seems to work for me since no matter what the CPU players seem to draw a mediocre pass rush unless my guys is dominating which is why I like to give myself the best weapon and the O-Line is because there are so many great RB's to choose from later and I am a very run oriented offense.

I always draft a nice set of CBs. Usually it's Revis/Bailey.
I found a great combo for my offense. I have Matt Ryan at the QB, Leon Washington as my HB, TJ houzawhatshisname and Jerricho Cotchery at WR. Ryan/Cotchery are EXCELLENT together.
After the 1st season I sign an *** load of free agents, this season I fired my whole coaching staff. Hired Marty Schotty as my HC and Joe Gibbs as my O-Coordinator. I don't recall my D coach or Special Teams. My biggest signing in the off season was Julius Peppers to go with Chris Long on my DL and that due from the raiders with the very odd name, rating is a 97, you know who I mean, lol.
Anyway, The worst part of my season was in week 14. Joesph Addai was my HB and he had a career ending injury! He broke his hip. Pissed me off!
