Understanding Stats

Hey guys, does anyone know where it clearly explains the stats and what they mean.

For example: Blockers, what matters more, their weapon status, pass block/run block ratings, or pass block footwork/strength and run block footwork/strength?

Corners: what's more important, play recognition or awareness?

Does training up your weapon status increase your stats too?

It's all completly dependent on what the stats are to begin with. You don't want to be deficient in one area, and massively good in another. Might as well have a mediocre both and have a better player overall.

But AWR kicks everything else's butt.

It all matters just means we have no idea what really matters =P I just watched a you tube video where "tommy nostrength" a custom player with 0 strength continually knocked over line men because he had 99 trucking. So clearly strength doesn't do anything there. It seems like it is just a case of EA adding new stats, like pass block footwork/pass block strength and not getting rid of 08's stats, like pass block. Therefore there's a whole lot of clutter and no one knows what stats actually affect the player.

No one knows? Why does everyone get so excited about stats and so pissed off when their favorite players get bad stats, and no one even knows how the stats affect the game?

Maybe because they are Atts not Stats

I think you hit the nail on the head to be honest. EA have added more atts for realism and a fuller game, but have instead clogged it by not working them in unison with the older atts in place. I dont have this years game, so I cant tell you the affect.

However what I can tell you is that some attributes have a massive impact...Like Speed and Acceleration (stuff it is easy to measure) as does Awareness, but that is hard to measure.

Myself, when I am assessing a player, I look at specific aspects I like a player to have, rather than the OVR (though obviously, if that contributes to a higher OVR, thats all the better as they are a more well rounded player). So for me, Im **** hot on things like Speed and Acceleration, and to an extent is certain positions, strength.

One thing that was the case in older games though is that they did not account for height and weight. Im not sure if this has been corrected, but except for the fact a player can literally reach higher, they did not account for those two when in the trenches for example.

If I could be more help on the newer atts, I would.

As for your point about excitement over atts. That's just a case of pride in the case of favourite players, and the fact if we are measuring things, how good a player is as a whole is something we as street walking coaches can do, or think we can do in some cases.

It just makes it ridiculously hard to know how to judge players. For example a running back, if you're trying to get a big short yardage back you'd THINK that strength is important. However, per YouTube - Madden 09 Strength and weight Mean Nothing neither strength nor size makes any difference for the running back. Based on that video at least it's all about trucking. And at least the running backs have fewer key attributes. Take corners, obviously speed/acc/agility are good, but what about play recognition vs awareness? Which one affects their ability?

I would be inclined to believe you take AWR as the overriding factor in things like play recognition.

I totally agree with what you are saying, what the hell do you base your assessment on? The simple answer is, I dont know, I dont have the game. But using common sense, and what I have learnt from the past years of Madden, I think if you are looking at getting a good CB lets say, use AWR as the overriding attribute in things to do with footballing intelligence.

Strength has never meant much for RBs, I used to think it would mean better stiff arms, but as far as I am aware, they have added stiff arm to the list for RBs (may be wrong there).

I think you just have to use your judgement. But I cant see someone having a 98 AWR but 57 Play Recognition rating, so I cant imagine it forces you to choose THAT much. In other words, if you have good AWR, sense would say you have good play recognition too, the two sort of go hand in hand.

What about Josh Sitton the new guard on the packers, at least with his pre update stats he had high pass blocking strength, decent footwork, but low over all pass blocking.... so is he decent or not?
