If you searched online discussions the past few weeks the dominant rumor was that Eli Manning was in talks with EA for the spot. Other names thrown out were Tom Brady and Adrian Peterson. I have to hand it to EA. Usually a big announcement like this can leak to the public, but they prevented that from happening. Favre was a top quality player and even though I disdain the Packers as a 49ers fan, he is deserving of the honor in my opinion.

Yeah he was. When I think of football one guy I will always think of is Farve the guy was a lot of fun to watch.
I couldn't have thought of a better guy. All the years that he gave the NFL, the records he set, the many of players who lives he touched. I also wouldn't have mined Sean Tayor of the Redskins either. A good player that was difinitely on the rise whose life was taken by some cowards. That would have been a good tribute if he could have made it.

If Favre does come out of retirement like he's threatening and suits up for a different team the cover will look a bit silly. All EA wants to do is sell tons of copies, but I bet they are secretly praying he stays on the sidelines just for continuity sake.
well if Favre does come back, which he just faxed his papers for reinstatement yesterday, then he sure as hell wont be in a pack uniform. Im sure as most of you all know, GB is shopping him around right now and if a trade does get made, it will be to some team who is "rebuilding" cuz there is no way in hell he'll be playing in a purple uni next (not that i want him anway) unless that purple is in baltimore.
I read an interesting article yesterday that made a good point.
Ted Thompson, the packers GM, has told the press that Rodgers is 100% the starter this year no matter what and Favre was going to report to Packers camp but Thompson told him to stay away so they can get a trade done.
So IMO, Thompson is saying he does not want Favre back, obviously, and they have moved on and he believes that Favre's best years are behind him...but if that is true, why is he asking all the teams in the league to offer a 1st round pick for him???
I def. lost all my respect for GB organization after this (not like i had a lot to start off with lol) because they're obviously done with Favre so they should just let him do what he wants and they should release him. If Favre's best years are behind him like they think so, then they shouldn't have to worry about him if he does go to my Vikes where they would meet twice a year.
this is a reason not to use 'retired' players that could come back on the madden cover and that would be hilarious if he gets traded to a different team the cover will look stupid and EA will have to admit they messed something up.
actually i dont think EA will have to admit they messed or anything, because they didn't mess up. They chose Favre to be the cover athlete because this is madden's 20th anniversary and they wanted to get someone who has been a big player in the NFL for a long time now and Favre was an excellent choice. It worked out perfectly for EA when Favre retired, it all fit. They had no idea he was going to un-retire. I mean yeah, if he does play again this year, its going to suck for EA, especially if he doesnt play with the packers. But i dont think they will have to admit they messed up though.
But look on the brightside, if he does play for another team, you can just use one of the Madden covers i make and put it over top of Favre
