Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past several weeks, you probably have heard that EA has added new Weapons system to Madden 2008. To accommodate this new feature, EA has added several new rating categories. These categories make it much easier to distinguish the various players, and make each player unique. Expect your favorite players to look, move, and play even more like they do on Sundays. Here is a preliminary look at some of the new ratings categories, and some of the player ratings that we know you're anxious to see.
Spectacular Catch - This is a new attribute which will determine how many catch animations a player has. For instance, a player like Brandon Lloyd, who has a very high rating, will have far more animations than an average receiver. This will lead to, quite literally, more spectacular catches!
Release - This rating will determine how quickly your receiver will break out of the bump and run. Steve Smith has the highest rating in the game for this, so he'll be able to blow off the line of scrimmage.
Press - This is a rating for defenders that will determine how long they can hold the bump and run.
Catch in Traffic - This rating helps guys like TJ. Whosyourmamma of the Bengals, who may not have blazing speed, but can go over the middle to make big catches.
Hit Power - This is a new rating that determines how effective a defender's hit stick is.
Look for the other new ratings in the video below. It's a little pixelated, but we're working on a database tool for the rosters now so you can compare all your favorite players. Also, at the end of the video you can see Overall Ratings for your team's depth chart.
Importance. How important the player is to the team he is currently on.

Thank you Chaos6 for clearing that up for me. Now that I think about it and look back it makes perfect sense as my QB usually had the highest rating in IMP.
