Madden 08 Cover!!!!!

I really hope this turns out to be false, but The Tennesseean is reporting that the 2008 Madden cover person will be Titans QB Vince Young.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...ors/index.html

Vince Young??? Great the people at EA must be adding a QB de-accuracy-i-fier into the game as the "new feature" It allows a QB to suck all game, then in the final two minutes take off on a 60 yard run to set up a game winning field goal by Rod Bironas (the real hero of the Titans run last year).

I reeeeeeaaallly hope this isn't true. Why not throw Chris Simms on the cover, the both of them have similar passing ability...

It is true... Vince young deserves to be on the Cover... even though there are people who have problems with athletic QB's... Good for him.

Wth? Vince Young's a great young QB, but last season, except the fact that it was his rookie year, wasn't exactly earth-shattering! Look at the guys who have been on the cover in the past, they were all well-established as some of the best in the game and for the most part in their prime when they were on the cover. Vince Young still has to develop and has a ways to go before he'll be a star on the tier of Donovan McNabb and Shaun Alexander, etc.

Besides, putting Young on the cover totally guts the Titans' chances this year . That's a little demoralizing to a rebuilding team on their way back up.

whether or not they were in the hall of fame, all the cover persons had at least had a good season before they were on the cover...

Lets see...quarterbacks that had a better rating than Young....everyone in the NFL but Andrew Walter and Bruce Gradkowski...

Maybe they put him on the cover because of his 12-13 TD to Int ratio..

C'mon...his passing numbers are almost identical to Joey Harrington's and I doubt anyone here will say he deserves the cover...

Contrary to misguided belief, I don't dislike athletic quarterbacks, I just dislike overhype athletes that get put in positions they don't belong in. Steve Young and Rich Gannon were athletic quarterbacks, and I have no problems with them.

...and before someone throws the race card out there I was a big fan of Randal Cunningham and Warren Moon.

Who knows, maybe Young will prove me wrong where Kordell Stewart, and Michael Vick haven't....

...but I am definitely disappointed in this cover choice.

Then why isn't Jake Delhomme on the cover? Since when other than John Madden, has a white guy been present on the game?

I mean the race card calling me a racist swoosh.
I wasn't even going touch on Delhomme or Manning, or hell even Grossman deserving the cover more than Young...

Young was 8-5 as a starter... that's pretty good

Cunningham? The guy that threw 1 TD and 8 INTs his first year in the league.. Hmm... you sure are consistant in who you like and don't like..

I'm not gonna get into the argument portion but I will say I think there were many other athletes who deserved the cover over Young (DeMarcus Ware, Jason Taylor, Payton Manning, Thomas Jones, Tom Brady, Demeco Ryans, Lance Briggs.....) all people with notable years (especially Jason Taylor).

Not downgrading Youngs year but he'll have to put up some better stats then that if he wants to earn it for me.

...and playing Devils Advocate, he did take a crappy team and do pretty good with them but look at Ryans with the Texans, look at Taylor with the Dolphins (who where bad last year), Ware with the not so stellar Cowboys last year.

I personally think he's a little overhyped for what he's done so far.

Funny I didn't realize the cover was an award they gave to deserving athletes.

I always thought it was a marketing thing to sell a game...

Well, it is obviously but who sells better then the most elite play for that year?

We could just put Michael Vick on the cover every year and copies would sell pretty well lol.

Or, hell, start putting the criminal athletes on the front cover. Crime sells man. I can see it now, Pacman Jones graces the cover of Madden 09.....

lol.

They could put an old man in underwear on the cover and YOU and I would still buy the game... The cover guy is to get the first time buyers..
