Request: Reading Man to Man coverages
Okay, I am not one that is good at reading the Defenses. Now, the only time I can tell if they are going to Man to Man is when then decide to go into man coverage.

My problem is, when they don't move to Man to Man, sometimes they still do a man to man coverage. Is there anyway to tell if they are playing zone coverage or make them move to actually get into man to man?

There are 2 ways that I read the defense. 1 if you want to get a handle on wether they are in man or zone send a reciever in motion and see if the corner goes with him the whole way. Now most of the time when i throw it is going to be a deep post, corner, or streak.

Thats when your first read should be the safety to that side. They will drop automatically if they are in zone, then depending on the route just place the ball out of the corners reach.

If they are in zone however you just have to know where the weakness is in that zone. I.E. cover 2 is the weakes between the safety and here is a seam in cover 3 behind the linebackers but in front of the safeties,\.

Also, if you are worried on a particular play, call a slant pattern with one of the recievers, and key on that one first. Leave the other Reciever at a fly, deep post or whatever.
If it's a zone, the CB will most likely drop directly back, but watch for a LB backing up or a Safety coming in. If you have room, get it to the slant right away. If not, look to your other receivers. if it's man coverage, you might be able to look deep. Just watch for the safeties over the top.

2006 is more clever...The LBs and such in zone move to make it look like they are in man sometimes...

They way to generally do it is like GHS said...Man in motion. But thats not always a sure fire way of doing it.

I think the best way to do the whole thing is to have a go to guy for either zone or man. For example...Ok, if this is zone then I will go to my corner route, and if this is man I will go to a deep streak or something to that effect..

I know this is old, but I just saw it. If you dont motion, then your first read eeds to be either safety. Watch how they drop back or spring to their man. If they both drop back you need to find a LB and check to see if he is dropping to a zone or manned up. If one safety drops back you need to read another LB or the nickle corer (depending on the defensive formation).

My reads go, Safety, LB, Corner, then the D line. If you are reading the D line chances are you havent found anyone to throw to yet, or are rolling out, in Madden and NCAA at least.
