Post Pre-Season Press Conference
<walks to the podium>
Although nothing spectacular we did finish the pre-season 2-2 with the possibility of going 4-0. I feel good about our pre-season even with those two losses simply because our opposition didn't necessarily beat us. Rather we beat ourselves with missed FG's and 4th quarte turnovers.
This is something that can be worked on and fixed easier than getting completely outplayed in those games. Another positive note is that we came out of pre-season pretty unscathed with only Will Allen subcombing to injury for another week or so ...
I feel our team answered alot of questions coming into this pre-season. Media all around of the country had counted us out and said we wouldn't be able to compete with the 'lack of talent' and 'inexperienced players' we had recruited during the offseason. My players however showed other wise
Both Dante Culpepper and Joey Harrington showed they can still play at a high level considering the loss of Marty Booker and Randy McMichael during the off-season. Ronnie Brown averaged 4.4 yards a carry and had 3 TD's. Chambers has come into his own with another 3 TD's and has made plays when it counted to lead this young WR corps.
On the defensive side of the ball we averaged 5 sacks a game and got tons of pressure on the QB. Our young LB corps learned alot from Zach Thomas and has been playing at a higher level. Our Cb has also been playing pretty well. With the exception of missing some tackles on occassion which will be addressed before the start of the season ....
On to the regular season and our goals. I feel that a division title is attainable but I understand that this team is young and we're rebuilding so we are behind some of the upper tier teams in this league. We will take it one game at a time. Even so don't count this team out. My players have alot of heart and fight in them. Dont' be suprised if you see us bid for a wildcard spot.
That's it for now ... See you all in the regular season ...
