For or against capital punishment via death penalty... And of course... Why?

Death penalty sucks.
Makes you not better than the guy you want to punish. And there is no effect of scarring off other "bad guys with bad attitude" fromj doing harm to other with these death penaltys. If someone wants to do something bad he will do it no matter what the penalty for is.

Its really pretty simple...if you take the life of someone else (purposely), or multiple others, than you should have your life taken. Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.
Personally, I think life in prision is worse than the death penalty. I think I'd rather "suffer" the painless death under the death penalty than live the rest of my life rotting away in a cell.
I'm really torn on this one, but I think it does come down to a morality issue. In that case, I would say the death penalty is wrong, cause it makes you no better than the killer.
At the same time, if someone volently murdered my Wife, or others I love, I would probably snap, hunt them, capture them, then bring a form of vengance that this world has never seen. Then I would go to prison for my crime. Should I then recieve the death penalty?

What makes you think it's about punishment? If someone somehow earns themselves life in prison for their actions with no chance of prole... I don't care what they learn anymore if anything. I personally couldn't care less if they learned anything from whatever it is that they did.

The penalties for crimes in this country are too weak.
The Death Penalty should be legal in every state. People who drink and drive should be charged with Attempted Murder, People who get caught stealing should have thier hands cut off, Men who commit sexual crimes should have thier penis cut off.
If penalties for crimes were higher less people would commit them. I bet $ on it. (I know if I was worried about getting my hands cut off I would never have shop lifted when I was a kid.) Those idiots that still commit crimes would be punished harshly for them and maybe learn a lesson instead of getting put in prison where they get free room and board, 3 squares and watch tv all day.
I would even go for a 3 strikes and your dead law. Commit 3 crimes and you are sentenced to death.

I am pro the Death Penalty and am pro stonger punishments for crimes. Of course, there is the chance that stronger punishment just creates a communist "Rule By Terror" country, but to be honest, our country (and I dont know about the US) is riddled with "petty crime".. Far too many muggings. And a whole lot of stabbings.
I dont think you would get people mugging if they knew they would get their hands cut off.
Of course, then there is a danger they just claim disabilities benefits...
I think though Chaos' ideas are raw, there is a lot of truth to what he is saying. I think harsher punishments would make the world a better place.
