Chiefs Pre-Season Game 2 Presser

Owner/GM ItalianStallion walks in and takes a seat.

This was the second straight week that we faced a team starting all or almost all of their starters while we only played a select few, and it was also the second straight week we lost. I am not mad about the loss, this was mostly our second team. There are some other things I am a bit unhappy with, however. Greg Wesley, slated to be our starting strong safety, broke his collarbone early in the game and is out for the next 11 weeks. This is particularly frustrating because in my talks with Coach Edwards we had agreed that Wesley would not play at all this game. For some reason he was in quite a bit, and it came back to hurt us. That's the second big time contributor we've lost this pre-season for a substantial amount of time, the first being Dante Hall for the next 7 weeks...

Although we will definitely miss the X-factor's explosiveness, his replacement return man Brandon Williams took a kickoff to the house and was averaging around 40 yards a return. The rookie will be very key for us this year.

Offensively, we thrust a lot onto Brodie Croyle's shoulders again this week. We thought he played better this time around, throwing a deep strike to HB Michael Bennett late in the game. That's not to say he didn't make mistakes, which he surely did, but he's showing potential out there.

On defense, we were very lackluster in the first half. Part of that can be explained with the fact that they were starting their first team, but at some point we have to step up and make plays. The linebackers were ok, although some of them were playing a different position. I thought our corners played exceptional. They could have used some help from the rookie safeties in pass coverage, but that was a problem we knew we would face. This will no doubt be fixed when the season rolls around.

After a game like this do you question your teams defensive abilities??? What changes do you make to improve upon it in the future???

Well, it's like I said, a lot of it has to do with a mix of our 2nd and 1st teams going against their 1st team. Brentson Buckner has yet to get on the field in pre-season, same with Kendrell Bell. Mitchell is playing in the middle now that Grigsby is out, even though we plan on starting him outside. Neither of our starting safeties in the pre-season are going to start. We were not very good at all, but I credit that more to inexperience than a mediocre defense. This defensive unit will be just fine when the starters come in.
