Chargers Week 2

*Tigam steps in*

First... Injuries:

Roy Williams will be out for about half the season with a dislocated elbow.

Marlon McCree will a game to game decision. He's having muscle spasms and it seems he may have tore or strained some muscles in his back.

Bhawoh Jue had a injury similar to Roy's... However it did not dislocate, and could be back before the season starts.

Randall Godfrey pulled some ab muscles. Should be good to go when season starts, but we might keep him out of the first game.

In general I think we played really well against the Bears in our 48-14 win. The team was, I feel, a little too pumped up for this game... I don't follow the papers much but some of the guys heard about some PowerRanking system that was published and they didn't get the due they felt they were warranted.

Offense:
We controlled the ball well and only had one turn over. That's what we are looking for out of this offense. Five passing TD's and a rushing TD with no interceptions. This is what we are looking at from out preseason games. We want to know if we have to pass, that we can. There were a couple throws by C. Whitehurst in the redzone that were very 'iffy' and the rookie needs time to make his reads. Time that he had, but didn't take. We expect this will be better as his he goes on in his career.

We were very impressed with our offensive line, and will work to see that this continues as we move forward.

The real surprise is the battle we are having for our second half back. We are now reevaluating something that we thought was already set.

With Roy out for the start of the season, we'll be looking for the young receivers to step up as nothing in the scheme is going to change. Players make plays. And we'll see what happens. And the preseason games will be used for what they are... Learning what we can and can't do.

Defense:
Kept the offense to under 20 pts. Six sacks, three forced fumbles with one recovered, and a lot of pressure on the QB all day while keeping the running game under 60 yards. I'm very happy with the defense. We'll have to make some adjustments with the injuries, but like the offense the defensive scheme will not change much.

Special Teams:
Well... We never had the opportunity to punt the ball, so Mike Scifres had a pretty boring day. The Bears had some great punt return coverage so we were fair catching alot. Nothing really to say about that aspect of the game.

Darren Sproles may be have troubles with the battle for who's behind LT... He's running away from everyone in the kick return production. Some guys have it, some guys don't. Sproles has it in abundance.

One thing we really wanted to do during this game was test Nate Kaeding. A 54 yard FG in the pouring rain seemed like a great test. And I'm pleased that he passed. Although I was wondering when the ball hit the back brace if the ball actually went over the lower bar, or hit it. That was a very close, but I must say I'm much more comfortable with the game being decided on the leg of Kaeding now, than I was before the game.

Questions?

Any Chance we will see a free agent signed because of the injury to Roy Williams?

For Madden people the best way to explain it is that he has a very low awareness.

We always have a look out for good talent... Even when we have a full roster. FA is always open, and we are always shopping. Even if we don't buy.

How much were you counting on Roy Williams being a part of your offensive attack this year? How much does this injury set your team back?

Given the injuries your team has received thus far are you going to continue to put your BIG named players on the field or change the way you approach the rest of the pre-season???

With the way with defense has played, does it look as if your team will not need much offense this season to succeed?

We were counting on his play making ability to help us win games. We feel that we can do that without Roy Williams out on the field. It's just easier when he is out on the field.

Every team deals with injuries, we'll adjust like everyone else... I just think with our talent base it'll be less than most.

LT is the only starter that will be limited in his playing time as we planned on at the start of the year. We will continue to evaluate our young talent in the WR core, and QB core.

Anyone can have a good game. It's the bad games I want to see, and just how bad they are going to be. So far I'm very happy with the bad games I've seen.

I said it at the beginning of the year, I'll say it now. I think our offense will be good enough to make our defense look better than it really is.

I think we might have some close ones during the first half of the season, but when Roy comes back this year, and he will be back, I think it'll take alot of pressure off of our young WR's and LT.

With being a heavy favorite, do you believe these key injuries might hinder you chances of being a heavy favorite, or do you believe that you will overcome these injuries and still take atleast a wildcard?

I don't care if we are the heavy favorite, or the underdog as long as we come out with a win week to week.

We converted third downs when we weren't in field goal range... The Bears did not. That's it. We failed on three third down conversions, two of them went for field goals, and one fumbled on a run into the endzone.

We converted every third down other than those plays.

Based on Turners solid play for the Broncos so far in the pre season, do you have any regrets trading him?
