PreSeason Win over the Lions
GM Lael approaches the podium. He has a very stern look on his face.
Lael: Well, as most of you know, we won our first preseaon game today. Normally, we'd be a little happy with the fact that our first string time outplayed their first string time. Or if we shut out their second string time. But that isn't what happend today.
We went out and played majority of the backups the whole time. They went without there starting Quarterback, John Kitna, and there starting Running Back, Kevin Jones. So, this win... kinda felt like we played the best college team.
That was there game plan. To play all backups. We outplayed them. I couldn't expect anything less from the way my team played.
Our running game did as I expected them to do. Turner showed that he is ready to become the workhorse, and that the Chargers, although they got a lot for him, lost a major asset in Turner.

It sounds like you are a little upset that they chose to evaluate their talent in a preseason game instead of playing their stars and exposing them to the potential of injury in a meaningless game. Is that the case?

We all like preseason because of the fact that we get to test out our teams. Well, I got to test out how good Cutler can do against a bunch of backups. I got to test out how open Quincy Morgan can get against there Safety. I got to test out a lot stuff that doesn't show me anything when the season starts. Yeah, people are worried about injuries. But I figure, and I guess I'm the only one that feels this way, that if you gonna worry about injuries, you should find out early. I don't want to go into the middle of the regular season, not know how reliable person X is from getting injured. If I have a major injury, I want it to happen right away so I can make changes. I know that doesn't always happen either, but by not putting your starters agaisnt my starters, you really can't evaluate anything.

Cutler's play was great. But regardless of what happens, unless something major happens to Jake, he is our starting. Cutler knows that this season is just a learning period for him. He'll get his chance this year if needed.

Do you think maybe for next weeks game you will find out if the other coach is going to play his starters or backups and adjust your own depth chart accordingly?

I could do that, but whats to say that they are telling the truth. Regardless of the morality of the owner or coach, if they don't want to make it an even match up by putting there starters in when mine are in, they outsmarted me.

Would it not make sense to want to know which of your back ups are capable of coming in and playing if you did suffer and injury? I mean do you feel that a lot of teams know what their starters are capable of, thus why they are starting and they want to know what guys they can count on if something does happen?
Or do you feel that you need to see what your starters have each preseason?

We'd all like to know how our backups would do if they get injured. But, players don't get injured all the time. Yeah, preseason means nothing, but we all want to see how our players can do. If we are gonna wait until regular season then why do we even play at all? Sitting one or two guys to avoid injury, not stupid. But every starter, neither one of us gain anything. You guys feel a major disappointment of a lost, preseason or not, it's still a lost. And the winner, accomplishes nothing. Yeah, we beat people who aren't starting.
And I will start my starts every game of the preseason because I want to know that they are ready to play.

Turner is our workhorse. He will be a big factor in our gameplan, but don't be suprised to see Cutler/Plummer make a lot passes either. We are gonna try to go as balanced as we can to both sides.

We won. We looked unstoppable, and we didn't allow a single red zone opportunity.
We dropped a lot of easy interceptions, we beat the back ups of one of the worse teams, and our kicker went 5/6 missing a relatively easy field goal
