Bills pre-season presser!

Hello fellows, this is the place where I want to talk about my pre-season games. Feel free to ask questions.

Mr.Billster: " Ok, the first pre-season game was against the Panthers. We won 20-13. It was a pretty unspectacular game, not many great things happened on the field. It was a solid performance of two teams. The only thing that bothered me was that we had 11 of 12 players leaving the game with injuries were Bills players. Some of them did not return to the game and we have to see how serious there injuries are".
All in all it was a solid game of our team on both sides of the ball. On the offense we had no Interception which is really good when considering that the Panthers put a heavy pressure on us. The OL had a superb blocking game allowing not a single sack. Still there was a permanent pressure on QBs Losman and Holcomb
The defense had a very nice game allowing not many big plays and getting 5 sacks against the Panters.
The game was good, not really great but i liked what I saw on the field mostly, exept this tons of injuries".
Any questions?

Mr.Billster:"First of all I wanna say thanks to good that our starting CB Terrence McGee has not suffered a serious injury. Like 4 others players he had left our pre-season week 1 game against the Panters in the second half and did not return... And today our team doctors told me that backup LG Mike Gandy and rookie OLB Brandon Johnson suffered really big injuries and will miss 8-9 weeks. That is a blow for us of couse to lose two players in your first game for long periods of the season, ut we cant change it now. The show must go on without them".

I think just 1 game isnt enough to tell if there are any key position battles. At least it is too early to tell anything precise about some positions still open for position changes. I think after an injury plagued 1 game I wont change many things now for week 2. I want to see my teams starters and backups again in a mix for the second pre-season game against Cincy this week.

Will you be looking in FA to bring in some guys to fill in for the injured players or will you try to go on with your current roster?

Mainly we will go on with our current roster, but we already made one last signing with bringing in experienced OLB Al Singleton for the MLB spot where we thought another veteran player would be a good fit to give our star MLB Takeo Spikes some time to rest at the sideline if he needs to.

Mr.Billster:
" Hello everyone, we have played our 2nd pre-season game and lost in an unlucky way 26-24 to the Bengals. Bother teams had a hard game and played very solid. The loss was in my opinion unlucky because we were leading in the game with 30 seconds remaining 24-23 but then allowed a stupid long kickreturn for the Bengals allowing them to reach the field goal range very, very fast. In situations like that we need to be more effective in stopping the opponents Offense.
The good side of our game was the pass defense and generally the enitre defense. We managed to keep their star players QB Palmer and RB Johnson under control.
The bad side of our game was somehow QB Losman, who had a poor day. Backup QB Holcomb had another great day and might be very close to Losman right now for the starting job in the regular season. What was really frustrating was Losmans desire for uncontrolled scrambling which lead to 6 sacks and made our job on the Offense more difficult.
You cant win every game. I saw some good things like our Defense and Holcomb leading the Offense, but also some things that need to get better, speaking of Losman.
One other positive note is also that we had ist one minor injury with CB Kiwaukee Thomas out for 1 week. Compared to our last weeks Panthers game to have just one injured player is really some kind of progression
Feel free to ask questions".

Hi Billster -

Does the far superior play of Holcomb in any way put him in consideration to at least battle for the starter role?

Right now I would say everything is possible.
The long term answer is surely J.P. but maybe Kelly Holcomb will see more playing time than we thought a few weeks ago.
But lets wait the rest of the pre-season games first. J.P. was somehow unlucky in his week 2 start, but it is not his fault that for example Lee Evans and Koren Robinson dropped long passes that looked not to hard to catch and would have given J.P a completely different QB rating.
