To New York-
Clemens to make about $4.5 million per month
NEW YORK -- Roger Clemens returned to the New York Yankees, making a dramatic announcement to fans from the owner's box during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners.
I hate the Yankees. Always respected Clemens but I really hate the decision.
Its just a patch for the pitching problems the yanks are having. I doubt they get much better. Yes roger will help them but with all the injuries they have already and who knows what others will follow I doubt hes what will help right the ship in NY.
For 4.5 million a month I'd do damn near any job... For at least a month. Damn how does baseball make so much money.

Yeah, baseball is run off money. Always has and always will....one of the reasons I'm not a fan of baseball. I think they Yankee's blow and I've always hated the Yankee's for many reaons (big one being I'm a Redsox fan ) but yeah......I think its funny when people are saying Clemens isn't doing it for the money. Mmmhmmm, sure, and bears don't sh*t in the woods.
...I don't think they are going to catch up to the Red Sox.
I'll never get tired of hearing that statement right there. Pay ALL the money in the world, your team won't be the best. Generally (but not always) in any sport, the higher paid guys are usually the hard headed one who won't settle for less. The Marlines pulled it off, the Braves, the Cardinals......you don't have to have an EXPENSIVE team to win the game, you have to have a co-opertive and well functioning team to win.

Hence.... the current state of my beloved Brewers. (Sorry guys, I know I shouldn't gloat... I just haven't been able to. I wasn't old enough to really appreciate them in '82)

you know a good example of this was a couple years ago in 2001...the Seattle Mariners were a year removed from losing Ken Griffey Jr. (which was a great decision for their franchise because he has been injureed evry season since) and one year removed from losing Alex Rodriguez.
when they were doubted and everyone counted them out, they grabbed Ichiro and tied a record fro most wins ever in a season (116)...it wasnt about the money it was team unity and thats what wions championships

hmmm...who won that year? How many playoff games did Seattle win?
I hate this though. I'm still rooting for Clemens because I just added him to both my fantasy teams.

Where did they finish in 2002?
The D-Backs won in 01... But Seattle still made it to the AL championship series.
In '02 they won 93 games, not exactly a number to laugh at.

Reason: Automerged Doublepost
I'm not sure if I am misreading/interpreting a couple of people's posts, but it sounds like some of you guys don't have faith in Roger, Yankees fans or not. I STILL think that after a couple of starts and he gets back into his groove he is a Top 10 Starter in this League, STILL. It would be hard to name 10 better then him, and you can't go off of record, look at the lack of offensive support he had last year.
At age 44 I wanna say he's bound to slow down, but I've been saying that for like 4 years now. Regardless of his age, regardless of his lost dedication to the game and staying in shape, he still manages to produce. Say what you want about the money they spent and whatnot, the fact is the Yankees needed to make this move to stay in contention in the AL East. Their pitching without him is laughable and wouldn't have gotten them much more than a .500 record. Even if Clemens only gets them an extra 5-7 wins, it could make all the difference in the world.
Predicted stat line...11-4 in 22 games, 3.23 ERA, 125 K
Can't Hate on Clemens .... making 28 mil for a season ... 4+ a month ... that's just gangsta .... if the Yankees want to pay him that much to still lose thier division ... **** it .... luxury tax =)
