Top of the 9th inning, you are tied 2-2 at home with the division rival Huston Astros, Who are you going to have step in to pitch?
You could put up your setup/closer, Derrick Turnbow, who has been hot with 15 strikeouts in 8 innings.
You could put up closer Francisco Cordero, with his 0.0 ERA in 7 innings.
You could have left Matt Wise on the mound, since he went 1,2,3 in the inning before, and only gave up a bunt so far in the ninth.
What do you do? You put in Greg friggin Aquino?!?!
Aquino proceeds to walk the next batter. The third in the inning bunts moving the base runners, where we don't get the force out on third, then Aquino gives up a grandslam on a piss poor slider to Biggio.
Seriously, I understand wanting to give the kid a chance. I understand that it's still early in the year. But you are playing the Astros at home! Put someone up there who isn't going to give up 4 runs in one inning!
The crew did all they could to catch back up, with Fielder hitting a 3 run HR, but it ended up being too much of a gap.
Thank you Ned Yost. I really believed we would win this game and you took that away from me. At least it's only baseball and there are 4571 games left in the season.
